| iamtravis's Full Review: KitchenAid Superba Dishwasher |
When we set out to find/buy a dishwasher last year, my wife and I did so with great effort. We religiously read reviews, examined floor models, and cross referenced all competitors. For a while, I wondered if we would ever buy one! But, alas we decided on buying a Kitchen Aid Supurba. Since I do all of the cooking at our home, I wanted something bomb-proof; my wife wanted something that looked good, and was quiet. We got it all but the quiet part. I hear the newest models are quieter. It makes more noise than say, a Bosch, but you dont have that annoying European filter to clean out like you do on Bosch dishwashers. Those things (filters) can get very nasty, and stink up your entire kitchen. Yuk! I don't know about you, but I will take a little noise with my convenience. The noise is not mechanical so much as it is water flow, and isn't at all offensive to me. Plus, I live in a home with a very open floor plan, and still no serious issues...
As far as the cleaning goes- SUPERB! I rinse my dishes less and less these days. Everything comes out sparkly clean, and smelling fresh; Even the nastiest pots and pans will look thier best. (I use Cascade brand detergent, with Rinse-Aid on every load). I even wash the grates to my range top once a week for the ultimate clean. I have had dishwashers before, nice ones, but nothing can touch my Kitchen Aid! In fact, this is the best kitchen appliance I own. I don't think I could ask a dishwasher to DO a better job than this one does right now. Think about that for a moment.... My wife and I were so thrilled with it, we bought the entire Kitchen Aid line of appliances to go with it. That wasn't exactly affordable for us, but when you consider the drawbacks of other makes and models, you can't afford NOT to spend a little more. Trust me, we did our homework on this one! Our yuppy freinds dropped a fortune on a Meile, and they have to clean out that nasty filter like all other European dishwashers, and it STILL doesn't clean as good as our Kitchen Aid. They have also had voltage problems, and mechanical problems. I hear Bosch doesn't exactly have the best customer service either. Looking more like a clear choice? Read on!
It's also the 'little things' that I appreciate. Like the controls for example. They are numerous, but straight forward. You wont get that "dear in techno-gadget headlights" look when you stand in front of this one. All of it is self-explanitory. I have only used the "heavy" option once, and it was so- overkill. Most loads will be suffice with the "light" option. There's also a "normal" setting between those two, but I think environmental. I must admit, I was a little apprehensive to the plastic push button menu at first. This is because I know how most are made, and they stink! They can be very glitchy at best, but not my Kitchen Aid! These are made a little different. Better. You dont feel that cheap plastic button just below the surface of the coating when you push it in. These controls are electronic relays, which are much more mechanically sound. Therefore, you dont need to press hard at all to activate something. A light touch will do. This type of control will far outlast the alternative. Great thinking Kitchen Aid!
Interior is high grade stainless steel. Do I need to mention how superior this is? O.K., i will: it's very superior! The entire back and sides are one complete piece of stamped steel. Look around closely at other dishwashers and see the difference. This means no seams. No leaks. No problems. The racks are very tough, and roomy enough for ALL of my pots and pans. Even my big stock pots ride in there with plenty of room. The top rack has amazing clearance (for a top rack), and I even put pots and pans way up there with excellent results. Thanks to the double quad sprayers!!
Combine all this great stuff with an exterior that's very attractive, and you will find it hard not to personify this dishwasher like the Old-timers used to do their prized autos. You will stop saying "it" and start saying "her". She will begin to have a name and a personality. I call mine "Betsy". Classic. :)
