| fishface's Full Review: Nobu: The Cookbook |
I definitely recommend Nobu: The Cookbook. It's a wonderfully written book filled with delicious fusion recipes and beautiful pictures to accompany. Very well put together.
I bought this book after having eaten at Nobu. The food was absolutely delicious! Owned by Robert de Niro and chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Nobu is probably the most famous Japanese restaurant. Rated No. 1 in New York, Paris...etc., you'd never be disappointed.
Best part of the cookbook is that it gives you information and recipes for EVERYTHING. Nothing is missing and makes it very easy reading. Best part is the dishes are not that difficult to make.
Nobu encompasses the best of the East and the West - Japanese-influenced French food. The wonderful pictures accompanying the recipes make it very inspirational. Each dish looks like a piece of art.
Try their signature dish: the New-Style Sushi and the beautiful Black Cod with Miso. You'd be amazed at the preparation involved.. the black cod is marinated in sake, mirin, and miso for three days and then grilled/baked. Great, wonderful food!
If you're looking to impress, this is the cookbook for you. I've thrown dinner parties quite a few times with recipes from the book.. everything from salads to desserts.. and have always received rave reviews.
Only little setback is that not all Japanese ingredients are easy to find, so suggest you visit a specialty Japanese grocery store for the ones you can't find. Thank goodness for Nobu, he has also provided a list of suppliers for ingredients you can't find.
This book is available at Amazon, all major bookstores, as well as through Nobu's various restaurants.
If you live in Los Angeles, be sure to check out Matsuhisa -Nobu's first restaurant. Matsuhisa has a very down-to-earth Japanese decor, not as fancy-looking as the newer Nobu restaurants.. but definitely attracts a very chic crowd. You'll be sure to find the who's who dining at Matsuhisa. Make sure you book in advance!
In case you don't know already, Matsuhisa has been consistently ranked as the top restaurant in Los Angeles area by Zagats for the last few years.
