Italy's 'morpier firenze/fiorize' Crystal Vase makes elegant centerpiece

Written: Apr 16, 2012 (Updated Apr 16, 2012)
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:Elegant, lightweight, for single flowers, takes polish, bottle-brush clean
Cons:Not for heavy flowers, not dishwasher safe, expensive, hard to find replacements
The Bottom Line: Expensive, not shatter proof, single flower use, hand clean, lightweight but accepts few marbles to weigh-down. Accepts baby-bottle brush cleansing. BEAUTIFUL hand-blown un-leaded clear crystal

Unlike a simple wine decanter, a vase of either clay, porcelain, metal or glass is used for keeping fresh cut flowers pretty to look at till they die. These can be filled with water maybe a few marbles at the bottom for weight and making sure they don’t tip, but in this case, this vase is not for an entire bunch of heavy flowers but better suited for 1 or 2 single long stemmed roses or tulips or daffodils.

Like the fancy decanters  these vases also are available in several shapes, sizes, textures and patterns galore, yet this one is very simple with a sterling silver foiled leaf pattern which encircles the upper stem, offering a taste of elegance. The company I cater with has a set of thirty minus five as the five top banquet and party planners have one of their own, I am one of those employees.

I use the Morpier Firenze Crystal Vase with Sterling Silver Grape Leaves mp38162-013 one I have not as a centerpiece but to hold single flowers off to the side of a room, not to get broken but admired. For work, me and my co-workers use these at formal engagements and only one flower per vase because of its frailty.

I am pleased with the durability, longevity and ease of care this beauty needs to keep fresh flowers standing straight up, not toppling over onto tablecloths and place settings.

Now on with the review . . .

|| APPEARANCE ||

A rounded bottom with a small flat part allowing for a few marbles to be placed in for standing weight strength increased, serves this sleek all glass vase. The crystal is clear, semi-tough but thin and not shatter proof so handle these with utmost of care. The sterling silver leaves wrap up top of the sleek neck from the flatter base, are very smooth and shiny polished to a resilient sheen to go with any silver-rimmed place setting.

|| CARE & CLEANING ||

There is a definite danger of breakage here so clean carefully. I use a baby-bottle brush and a mild soapy warm-water cleansing process and turn them upside down in a dish drainer so they won’t fall over and crash to a floor or something. We never, and I especially, never put these through the commercial dishwashing machine or even mine at home, too fragile and pretty to accidentally ruin forever.

|| COMPANY Info ||

There is little info about the actual company in Italy that manufactures these but Executive Gifts serving the Morpiere Firenze and Forzieri of Italy products shows this particular piece is available through a website called the global store. I do know that the latter has been in business for over 5 decades, so national recognition in the glass industry has proved itself with the volume of sales restaurateurs give to Executive.

I appreciate the high quality craftsmanship that goes into each gift, novelty or specialty item and have no problems keeping all remaining 25 vases chip and break-free.

|| DIMENSIONS ||

The Morpier Firenze Crystal Vase with Sterling Silver Grape Leaves mp38162-013 has not been sized in years, and i could not find specific measurements for it. I am guessing it stands 7” from bottom to rim because we had chandeliers one year that hung down and were exactly 78" ( which is 7 and 1/2 feet) away from the table, the placement of the long-stem rose that was 6" did not graze the lights.

|| NEGATIVES ||

The glass is very delicate so extreme water temperatures like boiling or ice cubes, is NOT Recommended and if you do place an aspirin in the water for certain flowers to get better nutritional absorption, than expect after the flowers die to have a film on the inside of the vase.

|| POSITIVES ||

It is attractive, delicate but with a few marbles gently rolled down the side before filled with water 2/3 of the vase, will allow for all the flowers you wish to display can remain sight-pretty for a few days depending on heartiness of that particular flowering plant.

|| VERDICT (my) ||

I find these Morpier Firenze Crystal Vase(s) with Sterling Silver Grape Leaves mp38162-013 easy to care for, use and decorate with especially at the very classy formal events you might be having. I don’t recommend having these outside unless the centers of tables are far away from floors, larger round tables and four placed appropriately on long rectangular tables also works great.

This is a vase folks, delicate and beautiful and not nearly heavy enough to be used as a water pitcher or wine decanter, so just use it or them for small cuttings from plants or single flowers that weigh very little.

As far as price, availability, exact style as one shown in picture, this all depends on the demand and how many are being made in Italy shipped over here. These are not cheap and may be hard to find for replacement should one break.

I am grateful for the one I own and the other 25 I can use when we are working to impress . . . (which is always) ~smile~

I rate this **** 1/2 stars, the 1/2 for extreme delicate crystal !

Thank you for reading and

Enjoy your flower-keeper(s) !
