Pros:Good sound, quiet. Has firewire port.
Cons:Poor XP compatibility. Problems with games and MP3 audio programs like musicmatch.
The Bottom Line: Don't buy until you have assurance that XP drivers are updated and fix the "squeal of death".
This is a high-end sound card aimed at the gaming enthusiast. It has some data paths that are 24 bit, though for the most part is should be regarded as a 16 bit card. It has on board connections for spdif, analog audio, auxiliary audio, and voice modems. The back of the card has output in toslink audio, and can support either dual 2w channel output or full 5.1 analog output. It also has a microphone input and line input. Best of all it includes a 1394 firewire connection, which works well for me.
The audigy gamer should be regarded as questionable purchase for users of Windows XP. It is highly likely that it will have problems if you use Nvidia or ATI graphics, runs graphics intensive games, have an Intel motherboard, a DELL 8100, or run MP3 programs like winamp or
musicmatch. The system lockup problems are alternatively denied and acknowledged by Creative, depending on phases of the moon. Perhaps the updated drivers will arrive, perhaps not. Its THAT kind of customer service. Recently, Dell released a special bios upgrade for the 8200 which reduces some of the problems.
Can only recommend when or if stable XP drivers are released.
