I’ve got hold of 25% off coupon, and placed 2 large orders on Macys.com, one to my home address and one to my work. Instead of getting two boxes, I started receiving boxes piece meal, some with and some without a receipt. The return paper only allowed to return what was in that very package, and everything else said “shipping separately.” Moreover, I had to either ship unwanted items one by one and get charged $6.95 per returned box, or bring them to a store. I tried to call them. CS phone does not give option of a live person right away, 0 is invalid option. Finally, after a series of trial and error options and finally reaching someone they told me I could not return several items in one box as “they came from different distribution centers.” I said it was their problem, not mine. The biggest charge I should have occurred was $6.95 freight charge for each of my returned orders ($13.90 total). The CS agreed, but suggested I’d ship everything back as I receive them (one by one) and then call back and ask for a manual reimbursement of the shipping charges. I did not believe them. I decided the sure way to get reimbursed correctly was to believe the claim on receipts: “EASY RETURNS to a local store where ANY ASSOCIATE” could process my return. What a lie! At Paramus, NJ store no associate knew where to return the items in one place. There is no online/catalog returns desk, like JC Penney has, for example. They told me to go to each department to return the items. Watch department gave me a hard time, because they did not recognize that particular watch (it was not sold in their store), even though I had the receipt from macys.com. They kept on demanding to find out the proper department #, none of which was my problem. They also told me shopping at macys.com is bad for them because they lose sale. All of this defeats the whole purpose and ease of online shopping, and does not constitute for “easy” returns.
Let me tell you why people shop online, at least I do: it’s because I don’t have to drive, fight for a parking spot, deal with sales associates’ pressure or attitude, wait in line into a dirty fitting room etc. Instead, I can try the stuff on in a comfort of my home, with different shoe options, get advice from my loved ones, and return what does not fit, even if I have to pay a return postage for one big box. Macys made my Purchasing experience OK, until I started receiving all these separate packages, including a top and a bottom of a swimsuit separately. Who ships swimsuit parts separately? It’s not even common sense!
NEVER AGAIN will I shop at either macys.com or their stores.
