Pros:Quiet, makes quick work of chopping, easy to clean
Cons:A bit heavy to move
The Bottom Line: A great food processor

I finally broke down and bought a food processor when I realized that several new recipes I wanted to make were almost impossible to do without a food processor. As a happy owner of several other KitchenAid products (mini chopper, mixer, cookware), I knew that my food processor would also have to be from KitchenAid.

I did lots of comparison shopping before making this purchase. Note that this model currently has a $20 rebate available with a free paring knife. The offer is good through June 30, 2002, and the form is available through www.cooking.com. The discount makes this a perfect time to buy this food processor! And, with many colors available, you’ll easily be able to find the perfect one to match your kitchen.

KitchenAid sells very high quality products, and this food processor is no different. It's super quiet and very fast. The only negative is that it is pretty heavy, and takes up a bit of cabinet space. I actually had to get rid of a few things in my cabinet to make room for the processor and storage bin (included with this model). The KFP600 comes with a lot of accessories – a medium shredding disc, a reversible thin slicing/shredding disc, a medium slicing disc, a cover with a food pusher, a multipurpose blade, dough blade, mini bowl with mini blade, and a spatula. The storage bin is a nice addition, because it allows you to safely and conveniently store your blades and accessories. One other thing that is included with this model is a video showing you how to use the machine, as well as demonstrations of several recipes, which are included in the instruction guide. The egg whip is an optional accessory, but since I already have the KitchenAid mixer with a whip attachment, I didn’t purchase that.

As much as I love potato pancakes, I hate the shredding part. With this food processor, I can shred potatoes in no time, without having the potatoes turn brown from prolonged exposure to the air. It also makes easy work of shredding beets, which are messy and difficult to do by hand. The multipurpose blade is perfect for chopping onions, celery and other vegetables. You’ll be surprised at how fast this machine can chop. I actually stopped watching the machine for a second while chopping an onion, and it quickly turned to mush. Make sure you watch what you are doing, because this machine is FAST. I love using the mini work bowl for chopping herbs and nuts, and it’s real handy if you are using the processor for larger jobs and want to use a smaller bowl and blade for these smaller jobs.

Cleanup is also no problem -- either in the dishwasher or by hand. Be careful when washing the blades by hand, though, because they are SHARP.

Although I haven’t used all the features of this food processor, I have already found it to be extremely useful. I love trying out new recipes, and this machine makes easy work of the shredding and chopping. Needless to say, I'm very happy with my purchase.
