Priceline stock is something- take a peek: its graph is a tsunami in a drying ocean... Roll the dice on what happens next to this ticker... One thing is beyond doubt- Priceline is a phenomenon of sorts. Are you ridgid and only do what is proven to work, also known as the same old thing? Only got 2 weeks for vacationing each year- and too worried about getting GETTING your SO WELL DESERVED rest- then you should move out of US to Australia or Europe, or at least aknowledge that you worry and work too much!
Priceline is a bit of a gamble on something no one ever defined clearly- which exactly is the best way to take a break from it all- planning down to minute to make sure you stick all the flags in the map, and have your snout captured next to every landmark a 9 year old can recognize? Or just taking it easy and relaxing, or both? Don't like leaving anything unknown, and not in check, eh? Unless you plan on rubbing your smart phone screen on and on no matter where you go maybe you should let go of control a little, on vacation at least?
So, if you like to gamble a little change, select where you want to stay, how much you want to pay, and how your hotel's star rating and click a button- this ritual is known as "Name your own price". To take the misery out of this magic- nothing really happens with unreasonable prices, when you expect to see 7777 on the screen after a minute's wait, but a message that there was nothing for $30 for a **** hotel, but if you go up to $80 you top the Big Deal.
I did this with my 5-day San Diego trip hoping to stay in a 3 1/2 star hotel for $80 a night, then hitting bingo readjusting my requirements to a 3 star hotel for $70 a night. I ended up with Hilton Garden Inn, which was a nice place any way you look at it- and 3 stars it was. Could I have stayed in a worse place, "getting a cat in a bag", basically with this dice throwing- I don't think so- due to assurance of the hotels' star rating, which speaks for itself.
The time I had in between booking the place and check-in, I found nice places to eat walking distance from the place- where to get gas for the car, and food to snack, and go down the slide for my kids, and library where my little one loves to read. I think on average, whenever someone checks in, it's 80%+ chance they are there for the first time- so you are suprising yourself anyways- no matter how long you read reviews and use Google Earth.
What does Hilton 3 stars offer- room ceiling a foot higher that an apartments, responsive service, "nice" room with granite counters, Aeron desk chair, a restaurant and bar where girls want to show off their dresses in the accommodating atmosphere, towels for the pool, visitors behaving as though they are in a library, as opposed to Chuck E Cheese's and a score of tiny things that make the whole stay, simply put, nice.
Only got 2 weeks off work- and Priceline is there to get me stuck in SOME hotel they choose for me. Or Only got 2 weeks off work, and Priceline is there to get me in the best hotel for the money. I think the first statement is more silly than sincere- I's like saying Obamacare is placing government in between your doctor and you, where you already have insurance company stuck inbetween there- so the statement should be "placing government in between doctor and insurance company and you. Hope I did not confuse you here :)You decide if the first statement or the 2nd applies to you. But if it's the 2nd- go ahead and shop Priceline- unless you are a flighty rich perfectionist. Whichever way you see it- I'd work on getting more than 2 weeks off a year, once you solve that major problem you'll be less stressed about how to book a hotel. I always loose gambling- the best luck I had was when I tried a pair of $6 pants in Goodwill store and pocketed three dollar bills I found in the pocket- always lost every penny I bet in a casino- and only had 2 numbers match on my lottery ticket when I bought 10 number combinations.
So, what is a big deal for YOU: Tying to relax and have some rest, or saying in control and having a controlled vacation designed with no margin for error? And is it supposed to be a big deal after all? Priceline is not a gamble you are calculated to loose, but the other way around. Still don't expect to logging in and finding "Casino owner gone crazy" types of deals :) GOOD LUCK FELLOW TRAVELERS!!!
