Pros: Reliable, fast for an old drive, very strong build quality, Number one CDRW
Cons: Poor labeling (metal engraving) at rear for jumper settings.
The Bottom Line: An excellent device, a safety net for those who create CDs regularly. If you make the odd CD, super speeds aren't needed. you will NOT be disappointed

| richardaevans's Full Review: Philips CDD 3600 6X/2X/2X ReWritable SCSI CD-RW Dr... |
I just want to highlight, of all the CDRW drives (now totalling 4) I have owned and used frequently, the Philips 6200 has always been there to rescue me in my hour of need. As a hobby I record television programs on to my SVHS video, then dump the video footage on to my PC, edit it in 'Adobe Premiere' to make it look like there has been no adverts. Enhance the picture quality, MPEG-1 it, then write it as a VideoCD. I have created over 100 VideoCD using Easy CD Creator 4 Deluxe with the CD6200 and only 1 disk failed and that was my fault after not setting the drive up properly when I updated my 'Operating System'.
Since then I have purchased the Philips CDRW800 series drive which has stopped working as a recorder after 12 months and 3 days (3 days out of warranty ARRRGGHH)... so I went back to my CD6200, Which rescued me for two weeks whilst I awaited the arrival of my new CDRW1600 (16 speed Philips Recorder). Now it has arrived I discover that Easy CD Creator 4.05 Deluxe does not recognise my drive and I have to update to Easy CD Creator 5.1 Platinum.. another unwanted expense... so FORGET IT ROXIO.. I am going to continue using my dual speed CD6200... Philips can have their 16 speed writer back and I will keep my eyes open for an alternative one that will work with my Easy CD Creator Deluxe 4.05... in the meantime, trusty CD6200 can write my next 100 CDs or more!... Thank GOD Philips got it right in the early days of CD-Recording.... where have there experts gone..
The newer Phlips CDRW also have a very cheap and tack front panel compared to the outstanding and excellent sexy CD6200. Bring back your original build team Philips, they build strong, sturdy and long-lasting products... please format your new team and reinstall V1.0
Saying that the same goes for Philips HIFI designers.... their FA790 Amp and FA900 series hifi was so futuristic and strong and outstanding build with excellent performance I thought Philips were the best hifi in the world... now I walk in to Dixons and Currys etc and see these cheap tacky plastic Christmas trees with lights out of "Close Encounters of the third kind" and in bright blinding plastic is a philips badge... Bad show philips... what the hell are you playing at these days?
By the way, if anyone has any CDRW800 Series (The big Dull grey units) Hifi components, please let me know and I will buy them off you 840 or higher only please,
Take care and give your eyes a rest now after reading all of this ;) Rich Evans ;)
