So we heard that amazon.com the biggest store on Earth had a brand new wedding registry. We thought: What a great way to do it: Combining a great way to shop online with an incredible variety of products.
It's March 24th and our wedding is in 2 weeks. It took us over 3 weeks to finally add all the items we wished for our wedding. With all the invitations sent out already, we thought that we were going to be very busy answering the door for the deliveries via UPS/Fedex. etc...
Until we thought it was strange that there was nothing listed on the registry! All the items that were listed in our registry didn't show if people were to do a search. I was using my computer for testing, but because of the cookies, everything was there. We were still adding items left and right. When I deleted the amazon.com cookies, and tried to search for our names, we were able to find our name and our registry, but it took us to the "Purchased Items" list which had a zero balance. But the worst was that the products that we carefully selected over a period of 3 weeks, weren't even there.
On the Registry page it listed my "Wish List"- which somehow got linked to my e-mail address. On the Wedding Registry page there was a link to my own personal Wish List. Since it didn't have any relevance to the wedding, I deleted my Wish. And to my very own surprise, the entire Wedding Registry was GONE.
Totally GONE. I could still do a search for our names, but when you clicked on the Registry, it took us to a "Not Found" page. Incredible. I was shocked. But was it my fault? What did the Wish List had to do with the registry? I tried desperately to contact a Help number, but duh... It's amazon.com stupid- no phone numbers. So I e-mailed them urgently about my problem and all I got were automated responses.
So, with 2 weeks to go and a BILLION things to do for the wedding, we sit here pondering whether we should spend more time doing it all over again or to just go to the mall and scan for stuff.
My advice is: If you really want to create a registry on Amazon, please test it with another machine and see if you buy something to yourself from it first. Keep checking everyday because Amazon isn't going to feel sorry for you if something happens. It's just an Online Store with no human aspect.
All we've got to do is to do some damage control- With all the invites printed and all, we've got some explaining to do to our guest... How embarassing, eh?
