Very disappointing. I thought CarFax could be depended on to provide complete and reliable information.
To see if that was the case, I entered a car that I knew the history of very well - my own car. The car is 2000 Honda Accord that I bought from the original owner about 4-1/2 years ago. The report shows limited information regarding service under the original owner and virtually nothing since I purchased the car. I got more complete information from the 1st owner. For Owner #1, CarFax showed only annual license renewals and regular maintenance, mostly oil changes, but the first owner gave me documents that showed also a new battery, axle seal replaced, 2 brake jobs, alternator replaced, torque convertor seal, engine mounts replacdt, and EGR pipe replaced.
I have driven this car about 135,000 miles, had it serviced regularly at the local Honda dealer and it has had minor body repair done, but none of this shows up on the CarFax report. The body work is shown as "Maintenance inspection completed - washed and detailed". The only other thing included is the license tag renewal each year. The report still lists the mileage at the number of miles when the original owner sold it to me, about half of the current miles. I realize that CarFax can report only what information is available, but it appears that a great deal of it is not, so this makes their service of little value.
So don't count on CarFax to provide complete information. I know I won't.
