| katopasna's Full Review: General Reviews of Sprint Customer Service |
I first got Sprint PCS when I was 7 months pregnant and my husband was out to sea. I didn’t really think much of what service to get. I was shopping at the Navy Exchange and there was a Sprint Booth so I stopped to find out more about them. I liked what I heard and signed up for their service.
What I was told
I was told that when I bought a Sprint phone I would get $30.00 rebate off of it and that for $39.99 a month included were:
**2150 night and weekend minutes
**350 anytime minutes
** Free Long Distance
** No roaming charges AS LONG as I am on the Sprint PCS Network.
I really liked the fact that I wouldn’t get roaming charges for a lot of my calls. I thought that would come in handy when I go on my road trips, which I did frequently. The activation took about 10 minutes with some paper work and that was it. I was cellular now! I was also under the impression from their map that they were everywhere.
What I Wasn’t Told
I am not sure if I just had a bad Sales Rep or not…….but now that I think about it she was on a personal phone call almost the entire time I was there….because she failed to mention a few basic things like….
That was I on a yearly contract; I am still fighting them on this since I never signed a contract. I also didn’t get an activation fee, which I am grateful for because for some reason she signed me up under a business account. Why? I haven’t got the slightest idea.
She also failed to mention that the area I live in isn’t completely covered by Sprint PCS. I did check out their website and I found out that I have an “Account Spending Limit”. I had no idea what that was and had to all Customer Service to find out about it. It was explained to be that since I had less then perfect credit I got a spending limit. When I reached my limit, my service would be temporarily disconnected until I made a payment. I don’t have a problem with that since I have a high limit but I was told she should have told me about that when I signed up for the service.
When I do call their customer service I must be really lucky with them because I am not on hold that long at all. I have had problems with some representatives having attitude because they don’t seem to understand why I am calling (more on that later). I even get through easily on a Saturday or Sunday.
In reference to the paragraph above that hold time I am referring too is when I am using my cell phone to call customer service. I am NEVER able to even connect to them with their 800 number on a land phone. I follow the prompts but keep getting the recording to call the number provided to me by my rep or something like that. Dumb thing is, that is the number I am calling. I have even told Customer Service about that but they are no help.
What I Found Out on My Own
I did find out that I really like their website. Unlike AT&T you can check your daily usage of minutes. They do give you an estimate and state that it may not be correct due to roaming calls that may have not been applied. But just the fact that you can kind of figure out how many minutes you have left makes it easy to not go over on your plan.
I also found out that they have a referral program. You can get a credit on your phone bill and your friend’s bill that you refer. Depending on what promo they have going it can be anywhere from $10-$30.00 an account. I did have 2 friends sign up under me and boy was it hell trying to get my $25.00 for each friend from them. They say it takes 4-8 weeks or so… 3 ½ months later and still nothing. I would call and explain to them the situation and some reps. were helpful others were completely useless. They kept asking if I used #10 when applying for the credit. I had to explain to them that I used the 800 number that came with the referral program. Of course, I had no idea what I was doing and that I was supposed to use #10. I had to tell them which monthly bill to look up and what page the program was advertised so they could see that I knew exactly what I was doing. Turns out it was a promo for a limited amount of customers and they knew nothing about it. After many, many calls I finally got some help and my bill was credited the $50.00.
I had even had one idiot rep. say to me "how would they know if I really referred those people, they could have been Sprint PCS customers before me”. I had to talk nice and slow to him and point out that if he looked at these accounts ( I gave him phone numbers) he will see they all signed up AFTER me.
Why in the World am I keeping Them
Because I am dumb… haha..not.. just because I do like the fact that I can go to most major areas and have coverage. Granted I can’t use them in my house, on Base, at my mom’s house or any remote areas, I am still keeping them. I recently changed my plan and when you do that you are required to agree to another yearly contract starting on the day that plan went into effect.
Why again I am keeping them… because I am trapped and I heard from my friend that when she went to Hawai (my future home) she had really good coverage (except on Molokai).
** I cannot recommend them because I believe you can get better service with another phone company. I doubt I will renew with them after this contract is up unless I get exceptional service in Hawaii (my future home).
