| schuedog2's Full Review: Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX Ink-jet Printer |
I was using an Epson Stylus 740 printer that went down on me. I went to the "pros" at the computer stores and kept getting different advice. They told me that the HP was better because of the 2880x2880 DPI. I took glossy photo paper into the stores and printed out samples. I liked the Epson better and I have been happy with my other Epson products but I was still unsure. I searched the web for the "Best Photo Printer" under $300.00 and still was confused, so I came here. I took the advise of the other reviewers and I am amazed. I thought that my old printer was good. This printer prints so clearly that I will start printing pictures instead of just Burning them on CDs. I have yet to use the card interface, my camera uses the Smart Card so I will have to wait to play with that. The manual states that you can upload the pics onto your computer through this port instead of using the camera and this will save on batteries, and recharge time.
The printer is loud and could use a little shielding, but them it would probably cost more. I am using an older PII 400mhz computer with Windows XP. I did not have any problems installing the printer and have yet to have a serious complaint.
The software package looks easy to use but I have not fully explored it yet.

I now have the memory card addapter. The company exchanged it for free and the new one is a PCMCIA Card Adapter that adapts the Smart Card, Sony Memory Stick, MMC Card, and the SD card to the Type II PC Card slot in the printer. This can also be used in many laptops. You can transfer information other than pictures to this card the same as you would to a disc. This may be usefull if you have another device that uses these memory sysstems. The transfer rate is good and I have yet to incure and faults.
This printer will also allow direct printing from the card without using the PC. I have tried this a few times when I knew what the order of pictures were on the card. It allows you to select the pictures you want and to choose the quality of print, the number of prints, and the type of paper. This is very easy to do. You can purchase a small screen that will alow you to preview the prints prior to printing but I have not purchased one becaouse I have the computer hooked up and it would be a waist of money.
The roll pf photo paper that this unit uses prints excellant quality prints. No one I have shown them to could tell they were from a printer. The print edge to edge feature works very well especially with the roll. You can back the roll of paper out and leave it in place on the back of the printer, you can then put the regular sheets of paper back in the sheet feeder and the roll is out of the way.
The ink cartrages seem to last fairly well. I have three small children who like to print things out so it is hard for me to say how long they last. We just started using an after marked cartridge that seems to print just as well as the OEM for less money.
