Re: Activation modem issue (Reply to this comment)

Yep. I learned that after the fact :) Now, whenever I reformat, I just wait and activate after my LAN is up and running.

Activation modem issue (Reply to this comment)

You said you needed to find a phone jack however, since you can go for 30 days without activation, you could set up your wireless network and activate over that. That worked great for me. I now run a dual boot XP/Linux System (Mandrake 9.1) and can't get my WUSB11 to work with the linux-wlan-ng driver.

Sorry, if I would have read your review prior to buying the damned thing I would have bought the damned thing again.
The review is great, I really feel remorse.
Thing is, from a certain level upwards, we are expected to do more than play with the product: ask for other ppl’s problems, investigate them, dismiss false alarms and underline true ones. In it’s short existence, WinXP already earned the title (among technicians) of Worst OS Ever. Is that a biased opinion you think?

PS: Please make me change the rating, it is a good review after all, I don't see why can't be a great one.

Re: No better than Win98 SE (Reply to this comment)

XP has been extremely stable for me. However, 98SE was stable for me as well. If 98SE isn't giving the user issues, it's probably not worth the upgrade. If you are having issues though, by all means upgrade. I have never once had the blue screen of death with XP.

No better than Win98 SE (Reply to this comment)

Are you saying that it's no better than Win98 SE? I had to turn off my computer without shutting down 5 times yesterday, and I didn't even use it that much (when I tell it to end task, I expect it to end the task, not freeze up). Windows 98 has been a nightmare, to the point that I'm kinda considering a Mac.

However, I did not have that little activation problem. I have a cable modem and at no point did I have to dial a telephone or anything.

Strange.

However, excellent job :)

Re: Just curious (Reply to this comment)

I haven't been able to find Linux drivers for my USB D-Link DWL-120. I found one experimental one, but it didn't look like anything had been done with it for quite some time. In the end, it wasn't worth the grief for now.

I have an issue right now (Reply to this comment)
by AliventiAsylum
between Windows ME and my Internet Explorer. It hasn't been working right for 2 weeks. I am wondering if upgrading from ME to XP will do the trick...

Great review

Just curious (Reply to this comment)

What hardware issues kept linux from accessing the net? You prob just need to insmod the right driver for your NIC or get a supported NIC if there isn't a driver for the one you have. That's the only thing I can think of.
