| sfarmer76's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart p1000 Ink-jet Printer |
I've decided to provide you with some updated information about my HP PhotoSmart P1000 printer. Since some Eisenstein complained to Epinions, Inc., I've removed the general review information that I had previously posted in this space. You can still read that epinion, but you'll have to search for it yourself.
What you will find below, however, is Safety Recall Information of legitimate concern to anybody that already owns an HP PhotoSmart P1000 printer. If you want a fuller review, please go down to the very first epinion I wrote for this site back in January of 2000.
I am leaving the information below in this space, as it is highly relevant and it may change someones consumer buying decision. I have decided it is best to leave my first review in its original place, since it has 809 hits and it is the first effort I contributed to this site. Obviously some nostalgia is involved, so I'm not going to remove my first Epinion, and besides, it's an Archived Review.
Getting back to the matter at hand -- I just got an ominous looking Safety Recall Notice in the mail from HP yesterday.
Due to the nature of this safety recall, HP is contacting all its registered customers. Notice I said registered. If you failed to properly register your PhotoSmart P1000 printer after purchase, you may want to read this and pass it along to any of your friends that have this model. HP is cooperating with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Longwell Electronics in this matter. Longwell Electronics is recalling AC power cords shipped with certain inkjet printers manufactured by Hewlett-Packard.
The nature of the defect that they have brought to my attention, is that the plug that connects the power cord to the printer may crack, exposing live electrical contacts and presenting a hazard for electric shock or electrocution. The recall is specifically isolated to Longwell "LS-7C," which is a gray two prong power cord. The cords were shipped with HP DeskJet and PhotoSmart printers in the U.S. and Canada from April 2001 through January 2002.
This cord was shipped with the DeskJet 800 & 900 series, and the PhotoSmart 1000, 1100, 1200 & 1300 series. If your power cord is black, it is not affected by this recall. It is suggested that if you have a gray power cord, that you unplug the cord from the wall outlet or power source first, and not from the back of the printer.
Once the power cord has been disconnected from all power sources, check between the prongs of the plug and verify that the name "Longwell" is molded or printed on the cord. If you can correctly identify the cord according to the above specifications, stop using it immediately and call HP at 1-877-917-4378 for a free replacement power cord. For additional info, you can visit http://www.hp.com/go/cpsc.
So -- I believe with the considerable changes I have made here, that this qualifies as a second opinion on the HP PhotoSmart P1000. If you have any comments or questions about my revised review, please feel free to contact the Community Care team at Epinions, Inc. (260/2,345)
p.s. don't make me sic BadKittyM on you, Eisenstein... lol
