Thank you very much...it means a lot to have people who comment and accept what you have to say even if they don't agree. Yup...we are listening to the same album :)

A Voltairian comment (Reply to this comment)

Although I disagree with just about every assessment you make here, I defend your right to make them. Plus, your bile for the album was quite tangible, thus I rate your work VH.
But c'mon! 'I Will Survive' is "dry and repetitive"!?! Are we listening to the same song? ;)
Kudos

Ahhhh...whatever. Just took the reference out. I can't figure out where I got my information anyway!
:)
Thanks for the help, guys.

I only thought that there were two cover songs on the album. One is 'I Will Survive' and the other is the Willie Nelson cover. As far as I know, 'The Distance' is an original.

Yeah, I do believe it is a cover. From what I could figure out while researching this album, King Missile used to use the song as a spoken word thing in concert. I also was unable to figure out what album (if any) it ever appeared on. If anybody has any ideas about this, let me know...I'm certainly curious!

Thanks for the comment, BTW.

Question-- (Reply to this comment)
by shilmafone
You sure "The Distance" is a cover? Its songwriting credit goes to G. Brown who is in the band, and I can't find a King Missile version of it anywhere. Is it a different song, perhaps, renamed for/by Cake? I'd be interested to hear the original. The album is littered with covers, I wouldn't be surprised to see one more.
Great review, though I may disagree--I love the album. :-)

Good Review (Reply to this comment)

I think just about everyone knows how I feel about Cake. I absolutely love them. I do agree about Race Car Ya-Ya's, though. That song is just bad. Still a good review though.

Aww... (Reply to this comment)

I really thought this was going to be about a cake eat-a-thon! Despite my initial disappointment, the attractive crown on the album cover (or "long-playing," if you will) beckoned me into the first paragraph. The meaty nutgraf led me, kicking and screaming, into the second. I shimmied shamelessly into the third. It gets ugly after that, but I guess my point is... (Da da-da DA!) ... nice review!

Yet another CD that happens to be in my collection. Only way it got there was because my sister didn't want it anymore..LOL plus, it reminded me of this girl. Otherwise, yep, it is pretty bland for the most part, I'd give it three stars too. I can't stand Race Car Ya-Yas, I don't know why the heck they even put that on there!
