Pros: Fast, reliable, hibernation is good, for all level users.
Cons: Rough installation, doesn't save settings on restart, some crashing still.
The Bottom Line: XP is a good product whose problems are outweighed by the fact that the overall upgrades are pretty effective.

Recommended: Yes
Before I had XP, I owned Windows ME. Fueled angrily by constant program failures with "not responding" messages, I decided the money was worth the security of programs. You see, I had heard that XP doesn't crash any program. However, it was not as tailored to mid-ability computer user so much as to beginner users. Neither of these come completely true, but there is some truth to them.
---Program-running
XP does seem to crash programs much less than ME. Every now and then, there is a problem, and XP allows you you send them a report, which is a nice feature, if they get observed. Plus, if you MUST end a program, they end much more quickly than ME.
---Beginner's Windows?
Although the colors may seem a little strange, XP doesn't seem to be tailored only for beginners. It seems just as accessible to me as ME. This one's a myth.
---Hibernate
The hibernate feature runs much faster on XP, taking about 20 seconds less to both turn off and on.
---Installation
Upgrading from ME to XP software was surprisingly difficult for me. My computer didn't accept XP and deleted ME, so it couldn't work for a while. What's worse, is their customer service could never solve the problem, even with three days and about 5 hours of calling. I finally had to call a wiz friend, who was able to guide me through my computer's rebuilding. After installation and even upgrades of the drivers, my keyboard's programmable button still doesn't work. All this adds up to a hassle that is unacceptable for such a major product.
---Problems on Restart
If you don't use hibernate to save your settings, they'll be gone every time you turn off the computer. For some reason, XP is unable to save settings to users as in ME. For instance, my Word XP's voice option always turns on automatically on restart, despite the fact that I always turn it off.
Overall, XP is a good product that cuts down on the crashing of programs. Installation can cause problems, which won't be helped by the "experts" at Microsoft. Hibernate works better on XP, but savings aren't saved on complete restarts. But, I think it's a good product, if not quite worth the money.
