Don't open an account, they bill forever! (Reply to this comment)
by olmclient
As a web site developer I acquired an account that was hosted at Olm.net and they never canceled the account. My client (Corporate) unknowingly has been paying hosting at Olm for over 2 Years! I have repeatedly tried to cancel the account and they refused. Now, after multiple requests they still refuse to close the account even though they are providing absolutely no services. I have let them know the invoices will not be paid. I have requested that they provide a reason or service they have provided that would justify an invoice and they could not answer the question. They know they are not providing the service, and have not for over 2 years for which they have been paid, and the greedy pigs want more. I would recommend never opening an account with them unless you have a bank account that is bottomless as they will never stop billing once it starts.

Quality on OLM web hosting (Reply to this comment)
by issolla
It is very pathetic service from OLM. Even through their servers and web site is down for hours together, they are least bothered. Their technical support is also like that. If there is any specific task, they don't tell tentative time to complete the process. Past 6 hours their entire servers are down.

Excellent service and support at OLM (Reply to this comment)
by thakorey
Hi: I have been hosting at OLM for over a year now with several domains and have been very happy with them, both in terms of the service as well as their billing. I had previously had a very bad experience with another hosting company which grossly and constantly overcharged my account. In contrast, OLM has been very honest in billing and tech phone support is manned by very helpful and competent staff. I can get through to them very easily at all hours and they can typically solve the problem very quickly. I found their phone support more responsive than submitting trouble ticket. Based on previous opinions, they must have improved tremendously in the area in the last year or so.
Overall their uptime is pretty good (CNET has excellent ratings on them for this) but in shared hosting there is a possibility that servers can crash due to overload. For a short while, one of my domains kept crashing, and they were quick to identify problems and move it to a new server.

Forget SPEWS! (Reply to this comment)
by gfenley
Had to comment on this one, although I am not a current OLM.net customer. I *am* however, an IT professional of over 15 years experience, currently employed by a Web developer, so I know what I am talking about.
SPEWS.ORG is a group of self-appointed Internet vigilantes. Based only on secret criteria of their own making, this anonymous group believes the best way to stop spam is to disrupt the email traffic of innocent users in order to "put pressure on the ISPs to cancel the spammer's accounts". There is no way to contact the people behind SPEWS other than an newsgroup, where appeals to be removed from the SPEWS blacklist are met with insults and accusations of "supporting spammers".
Because of their unprofessional conduct, no IT admin with any sense would use the SPEWS.ORG list to screen mail traffic, as they would be blocking email from hundreds of legitimate users as well. I cannot speak for the reliability of OLM's hosting service or quality of their customer service, but I would encourage any prospective customer to ignore slander by SPEWS.ORG against *any* provider unless you have researched SPEWS to learn the true facts of their activities.

very interesting (Reply to this comment)

I myself host with OLM through one of their resellers, I have that $17.95 account. My mail server name is though either my domain name or something like kraken.host4u.net - never had that mail problem but I'll check on that site now.
I agree that their tech support is not the greatest (basically not available, but when I _caught_ them, they were knowledgable) - but I don't export more for $17.95 / month.
