| muls's Full Review: Dazzle Multimedia ZiO! USB Pocket-Size r/w for Sma... |
I have been using my Olympus C-4040 for approx. 5 months now and the one complaint I've had is the battery drain while transferring my photos from the camera to computer. What to do??? I purchased the Zio Smartmedia card reader.
Installation
Simply pop in the supplied disc and the auto-run program will direct you to install your compatible driver. Restart your computer, plug in the card reader, either directly into a usb port, or with the supplied usb extension cable. It's that simple. I was using the reader to transfer photos inside of 5 minutes. An icon for a removable drive will appear in the My Computer folder. This is where you access the reader.
Like I said earlier, the main reason for my purchase was to stop draining my camera batteries, but also to protect the camera itself. I no longer have to take the camera over to the computer and lay it out on the desk where it can get knocked off, or where little hands(children) can get it. I simply pop the card into the reader and leave the camera in its case. It transfers photos to you computer at a good clip (USB speed)and is so simple to use. It really does make life easier.
Included Software
The reader I purchased included a copy of the required drivers, as well as a copy of Dazzle OnDVD software, which allows you to create slideshows and record them on cd-r's for playback on your DVD player. This software is very useful for sending picture shows to family and friends in other parts of the country and it was a great throw-in to a product I would have purchased anyway. There is also a copy of Acrobat Reader 4.0 included.
All-in-All, while it's not an expensive, glamorous product, it is a very useful one. I picked one up at CompUSA for $29.95, with a $10 mail-in-rebate via Canon. If you have devices that require Smartmedia, especially battery drainers like digital cameras, I highly recommend grabbing the Zio Smartmedia reader.
