Positives for this camera is a good value for it's price point, beating out most other major manufacturers with the price and features it is equipped with. The wi-fi can be handy if you need to run the camera unattended and will allow you to operate very basic functions via a tablet, laptop, or browser equipped smartphone. The recording quality is good, at both HD and SD settings, and this camera will allow you to shoot great action stills at the same time as shooting video, making it very quick in this area as your lens is already focused on the subject.
Some not so great things, the menu system forces you to go several screens deep to get to basic white balance and color settings, the first menu being some useless overlay effects most people will never use. The lens is not very good, and is very bad in situations with a lot of reflections like a shiny car, or sunlight reflecting off a lake (purple fringe).
Things to keep in mind for this model, is you will need to add extras such as video editing software, memory card, and possibly an extra battery which will increase your purchase cost. Included software works for short projects but you will need something better for longer videos, as it limits you to 100 segments, which will get used up quickly if you plan to include still photos in your project. The camera also exclusively uses the AVCHD format, so playback of your finished videos will require you to have a compatible blu-ray player to view them afterwards, and limits your choices of 3rd party software.
Overall, this is a well priced product, and if you don't mind some of it's quirks is a good value for an entry level camcorder.
