| Ladysmom's Full Review: KitchenAid Superba Dishwasher |
In January of 2002, I couldn’t take my old Montgomery Wards Special any longer. We had purchased it new from a friend of my husband’s for $25.00. His wife bought it, never took it out of the box to be installed and decided she needed another on.
That was five years ago and I must say that I did get my monies worth out of it.
I just plain got tired of the door not wanting to close and the baskets just coming out in my hands even with dishes in them. I was lucky that I didn’t break a whole set.
When I went shopping for my new dishwasher I knew what I wanted, it was a Kitchen Aid. I had had one years ago and had to leave it in a house we sold. I was so upset, I would have rather left my husband with the house but the new couple said no.
Having owned another dishwasher by Kitchen Aid, a washing machine and several small appliances I knew about the reliability of the company and their appliances and how well they all worked.
I had purchased a Kenmore when I moved into this house in 1985 and while it gave me satisfactory results I wanted a Kitchen Aid once again because it made less work of cleaning the dishes.
Armed with the information I had gleaned from Epinions I set off on my journey to the appliance stores checking on the Kitchen Aid Superba.
One store said they didn’t know if that model was still made, another store said they were completely out of Kitchen Aid so I ended up at Sears where the salesman was more than helpful.
When I walked into the appliance department of Sears on the second floor, there it was sitting in the display so regal, you just knew it was the Kitchen Aid Superba. Oh, there were others that were “like it or nearly like it” but you could tell the difference right away.
I did not want a Maytag as I have had nothing but problems with my cook top since the day it was installed and Maytag’s customer service just plain stinks.
He showed me the features of the dishwasher which were awesome. It comes with the stainless steel interior, upper spray arm, middle spray arm, 2-postion top rack adjuster, fold down flexible tines, satin glide upper rack track (and it does slide smooth.), flip away tines, 4-way hydro sweep spray arm, bottom rack, detergent dispenser, vent, middle spray arm, silverware basket, culinary caddy, (this is small and it has a cover), rinse aid dispenser, and an over fill protection float.
There are five wash cycles, heavy, normal, light, quick cleanup and rinse only.
The heavy is for those really rough pots and pans that are dishwasher safe and along with that you hi temp scrub that gets the water hotter than the recommended 160 degrees to really get those pots and pans clean.
There is a sani-rinse for those that have babies or that like to can.
When drying you have the regular heated dry or the energy saver dry. I have only used the energy saver dry. The dishes will come out still a little wet especially if they have a lip on them.
My dishes have come out clean everytime with no food residue left on them. I just love it.
You also have a delay switch that will delay the wash cycle 2, 4 or 8 hours. This will give you time to take a shower and get the kids ready for bed and time for the hot water heater to recover.
The silverware basket is positioned on the right side of the lower basket for easy access and it is removable if you need that space.
The control panel is a flat panel with no knobs to twist. You just press the area you want and a little green light comes on. You can follow the progress of the wash and dry cycles by the little green lights.
Inside on the door is the soap dispenser and this is one of the most remarkable things. You only have to add one tablespoon dishwashing powder to get the job done. No more of scooping or pouring into several cups.
Before starting your Kitchen Aid Superba they recommend that you turn the faucet on that is next to the dishwasher and let it run until the water gets hot, then start the wash process. This does make sense; the water is cold the first few seconds.
Along with the Kitchen Aid Superba comes an easy to read owners guide. This explains how to raise and lower the racks, load, clean the interior should it need it, what the proper water temperature is and how to check to see if you have the right temp. It also explains the different wash cycles and what settings you should use.
I mainly use the normal setting and this is great for those dishes you don’t rinse but scrape with a rubber spatula to get the solid food off. If a small amount does happen to get into the dishwasher it does have a disposer for that. They don’t recommend just placing food and all inside.
One of the nicest features of this is the control lock button, this locks all the buttons on the front of the dishwasher so little fingers can’t start pressing and interrupting what is going on. It is easily unlocked by holding the air dry button down for four seconds.
The quiet of the Kitchen Aid Superba is wonderful, you have to be in the same room with it to hear it running and then it is so quiet that you can hold a conversation. I have not heard my dishes being thrown around inside either.
On the front of the Kitchen Aid Superba there is a steam vent when the dishes are drying, no longer is that steam left inside and dishes not dry even on the heat dry.
To me this is one of the better dishwashers on the market and more than meets my expectations.
There is a one full year warranty that covers all parts and labor, a second through fifth year limited warranty which Kitchen Aid will replace the upper and lower nylon rack,, the wash and drain motor, the electronic control, the heating element.
There is a full lifetime warranty and that is quite a lot of what they will repair and won’t repair. It is best to read this before purchasing the product to be sure that is what you want.
I have never had any problems with Kitchen Aid products so I have never had to contact them about any of their warranties. I can’t speak about their customer service either as I have never had to contact them for that either.
I guess all of that just speaks for itself.
Thanks for reading.
