Almost creates a laptop...

Written: Apr 24 '02
Pros:Definite gadget coolness, eases data entry and word processing. Excellent feel.
Cons:Feels fragile, but never had a problem.
The Bottom Line: Nearly makes a Pocket PC a laptop replacement. A very worthwhile accessory.

I received this keyboard when I purchased a Jornada 525 on ebay as a package for $200 not a bad price when they go for anywhere from 50-100 dollars. The sizing is excellent when folded, only a bit bigger than my Jornada.

Opened and in use, the keyboard feels great. I've heard reviews that say it feels like the keyboard on an IBM Thinkpad and from my personal experience it does feel exactly that way. It is a full sized keyboard. No hunting and pecking necessary. It gives so much more ability to my 525 that it has become nearly a laptop replacement.

I use it primarily in meetings to jot down notes and impress clients ;) .I also use it to enter things in my journal, add contacts, play games, nearly anything where I have to input into the machine. The onscreen keyboard is nice but small and you can't go quickly. The handwriting recognition is good but my handwriting sucks. This bridges all gaps and it even allows me to, believe it or not, do web development work. Nice when you have an idea and you just have to get it out. Usually I have me secretary jot my notes down in our meetings and she loves the feel of the keyboard also.

Another interesting feature I almost forgot to mention, it is equipped with a power cable pass through, so you can charge you Jornada with it attached. It also doesn’t seem to drain much from the battery as it runs off of the internal battery on the PDA. All in all one of the few accessories I have that really do the job well. Even if I hadn't received it free, I would have to say it's worth the price. Sure $50-$100 may seem high for a keyboard, but the productivity gains make it all up.
