As the story begins you are introduced to two best friends, Annemarie Johansen and Ellen Rosen. They are living in Denmark during the times of German occupation. At first they are able to live normally minus a few luxeries, but as the story develops everything changes. When the Nazis begin "relocating" the Jews the Rosens realize the aren't safe and there close friends the Johansens realize the must help them escape. Many times while the Johansens help the Jews they have close encounters with the Nazis, but the remain courageous.
This is a story tells a gentle story of that which was the holocaust. There are event which will make you laugh and that will make you cry. This is a wonderful book for children and adults alike.
