| masonicman's Full Review: Teraoptix TERAPIN Stand-Alone CD Video Recorder CD... |
I have to start my opinion right off that there are other models out there that do more stuff, but I consider the Teraopticx TERAPIN Stand-Alone CD Video Recorder one of my best purchases ever.
This MPEG-1 VCD burner is the second most used piece of electronics equipment. Led only by our CD players. I have found more reasons to use it than I ever thought I would.
Previous to the purchase of our Teraoptics TERAPIN, I took a lot more still pictures than video because it was so nice to store the photos on disc. I like the smaller storage space, they were easier to categorize, and we , as a family, looked at them more often.
I love being able to put video onto a CD at home. Let's face it, who wants to run somewhere to drop off the video, pay someone to transfer it to CD, and go pick it up again.
This piece of equipment also records CD's from a jack, so of course, with two pre-teen children, we have burned lots of music.
The TERAPIN may not burn SuperVCD's or photo, but it has been worth every penny I paid for it. Even with the use, or sometimes abuse, it has taken in our household, I have not had any service done to it, or had to replace it. This piece of equipment has been one of the most durable and dependable pieces of electronics we own.
The TERAPIN was, however, one of most frustrating pieces of equipment to learn how to use that we own. I had to have my brother come over and translate for me. It is also one of the most sensitive pieces of equipment we own.
Some helpful hints:
Always warm machine up before use. The TERAPIN seems to me to burn better when warm.
Use quality CD's. The TERAPIN seems fussy about accepting cheaper or off-brand CD's.
Don't loose the remote! Not all functions are doable from the stand-alone. The remote is necessary for set up.
Keep the number for support handy. I have found great support, especially during set up. If you don't have a brother who can translate the directions to you, I have found their tech support to be extremely helpful, and friendly.
My money is definitely on the TERAPIN. It was one of the first models out, and is still going strong.
