Worldwide Direct buydig.com
I keep wondering why they call this site buydig.com when the website comes up as both Worldwide Direct and buydig.com. I suppose it doesn't matter, but it can be a tad confusing.
My product
We ordered my husband's mother a Samsung DVD-Video player from buydig.com. The price was reasonable ($149.) and the player arrived on time (4 days) and in perfect condition. I feel that shipping was totally outrageous at $29.95 standard ground FedEX (including insurance). Mom-in-law said the shipping was fine because it was the player she wanted and even with the cost of shipping and insurance, she was still saving a few dollars. I know that with those who are on a fixed income (Social Security), a few dollars can be significant.
Look and Feel
I have certainly seen websites that appeal more to me, but buydig.com is very functional. The colors are white, black, and two shades of a sort of periwinkle color. I feel the site could use a make-over in the navigation design though. It seems to me that if the links were all located on a side bar, it would be more efficient. They did have these navigation links on top the page but have since noticed they moved them to the bottom but just for the main page. You will find them on bottom once you leave the first page.
The search feature searches by manufacturer and is easy to use. It lists all the available ones by drop down menu. You can also search by key word. This feature works pretty well. They have their certified merchant button and other banners on top of the page and I feel that may be a bit tacky but it doesn't take away from their prices or quality of customer service. I am bad to leave a site if it is not visually appealing to me and that is the wrong attitude to have. They do list their telephone numbers (Toll Free: 1-800-617-4686 and Local & Over seas: 1-732-752-4466) at the top of the main page though and I find that to be a positive thing. It is nice to have those for quick reference so you don't have to search for them. Often, these numbers on websites are hidden well.
What they Offer
On the side bar, you will find links to their corporate info, their free catalog, FAQs and policies, their specials, and contact info. I think these would better serve if located at the bottom of the page the way most sites list them. Included in the links toward the very bottom are their products lists. They are: camcorders, cameras, DVDs, fax machines, receivers, digital voice, printers, scanners, vcr's, monitors, video capture, PDA's, TV's, computers, notebooks, radar detectors, portable audio, and digital frame. As you can see, they have a wide variety of product to select from. They also carry refurbished product and for some reason, that always makes me uncomfortable. I am always afraid they will send me a re-done one in place of a new one. Fortunately, the DVD we bought was in fact new and had no problems. It had a full manufacturers warranty.
You have the option to order their mail-order catalog. I have it and I feel it is much better to deal with them online. Often, there are products that they no longer have and it is not updated in the catalog as it would be online. But the catalog is nice to have if you enjoy sitting down (offline) and browsing through them instead. You can always go online and check for availability.
Policies
As with many online stores, this one has a 10 money back guarantee for workmanship and defects but you have to return within the 10 days of receipt. There are no returns on software that has been opened. They have to ship orders that are over $1,000 to your actual billing address. That could be a problem for those who have a P.O. Box as a billing address, such as I do. They accept C.O.D. orders with a 10% down payment. They will not do returns for Compaq products. They will not accept returns that have been opened. Those have to go to the manufacturer and a 10% restocking fee will be imposed on those successful returns.
All items in stock will ship within 48 to 72 hours. That is not something that impresses me either. I like the same day shipping.
If you see a product that has an asterisk* after the price, this means that that is the price "after" rebate. One other thing. If you are ordering more than one item, they may impose an additional shipping charge. I know that mine was certainly high and we only had one item. I can imagine what it would be with more. A lot of these merchants really take you for a ride with shipping charges and we can guess where that money is going. (In their pockets)
My overall recommendation
Even though the shipping is out of sight, I still recommend buydig.com. You should check them for a lower price because I have found them to be lower on some things when comparing to places like compsource.com. You may want to check with them for something that has been refurbished, if you are into that sort of thing. I am just too nervous to buy used items over the internet myself.
If you can ignore the somewhat ugliness of the site, you will have it made. They do have a decent selection with a decent price. The pages do load fast and despite the effect of disorder, you will be able to navigate through it just fine. Check them out and see if you can find a deal for yourself.
