SUPER 8 MOTEL - POCATELLO

I recently did a road trip to Arizona from Spokane, Washington and on the way back I stopped at the Super 8 Motel in Pocatello, Idaho. I had been on the road for 12 1/2 hours so all I really wanted was somewhere safe and comfortable that did not cost a fortune. I have had fairly good luck with the Super 8 chain in the past, so I pulled in and went inside to see if they had a room available.

The front desk clerk was very nice, personable and helpful. He set me up in a nice room on the second floor near the outside stairs, which made it easy for me to carry my luggage up from my car. He did say their elevator was currently out of order, but that did not bother me as I rarely take the elevator anyway. Nice plus - they honored my Triple A discount. The room ended up costing me right around $61 for the night.


Positives:

- Free WIFI. And an added bonus - it was very steady and did not fade out on me at all. A very nice desk was provided in the room that was great for putting the laptop on.

- Coffee in the room. I was a bit confused at first as I had never used one that had a disposable filter and filter holder, but once I figured it out I was good to go. And the coffee was pretty good.  There was regular coffee, decaf coffee and black tea as options.

- The room was very clean.

- Big screen TV with a lot of channels to choose from.

- Bed was ridiculously comfortable. It was like a little piece of heaven. I had trouble getting out of it in the morning - knowing I still had a ten hour drive in front of me - and the bed was soft and cushy.

- Shower had nice, hot water. They also provided a small bar of body soap, a small bar of facial soap and a small bottle of shampoo.

- Breakfast was provided free of charge. I went down to check it out, hoping to find something I could take on the road with me. Unfortunately all I saw was eggs and waffles as well as coffee. So I decided to skip breakfast as nothing was appealing. The hotel had a nice dining room so a person who did want to eat breakfast would have a nice place to do that.

- Even though the Super 8 is located on a fairly busy street, I did not experience any disturbing street noise. Now, I was completely exhausted so it is possible I just didn't notice.

- All of the lights had electrical outlets in the base, which made charging the cell phone and plugging in the laptop a breeze. I do hate climbing down on the floor to find a plug in when I need one.

- A blow dryer was provided, attached to the wall so I did not have to get my own out of my bags. Very convenient.


Negatives

- The sink is located outside a small room that contains the tub and the toilet, near the door of the room. It was too busy. The blow dryer was to the left and the coffee maker on the sink counter to the right. Having those electrical items plugged in right by the sink made me a bit nervous.

- They provided two paper coffee cups but no plastic drinking cups.

- All of the rooms were non-smoking. I realize that some people might see this as a plus, but to smokers who like to smoke in their motel room this is a definite negative. If you are a smoker and do like to smoke in your room, you will want to avoid this motel.



Final Thoughts

I was quite pleased with my stay in the Super 8 Motel in Pocatello, Idaho. I felt safe, which was very important to me after my previous motel experience in Ogden, Utah. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The price was reasonable and I feel I definitely got my money's worth.
