Walgreens.com
I can remember a rise and fall of Walgreens. Not a fall that you would think of as going out of business, but as in being one of minor popularity. Times change and Walgreens has been changing right along with time.
I have watched and observed in the past couple years, Walgreens are popping up all over the place. Shoot, we have two new stores in our location. This is progress and progress that I feel is deserved. Being in business since 1901 says a lot about a company.
Wallgreens has a website now and it is a very pretty and efficient site as well. Decked out in pastels such as peach, purple, white, and baby blue. Designed just right so that any browser or resolution can view the site and experience it's creativeness without having to scroll from left to right. Pages are speedy and not loaded with graphics that take way too much time to load.
The site is organized so well that any online shopper can find their way around blindfolded. They are very careful to include company history, FAQs, press releases, job opportunities, investor relations, and all their do-goods for the community, such as charities and such. They have developed into one of the countries most trusted and respected companies.
First things first:
After taking time to browse around Walgreens site, you will want to create an account with them if you plan on ordering from them. This is a simple process and all you need is the basic stuff like name, address, phone, and you will also need your e-mail address. You will also have a pin number. You can opt out of any e-mail they may send but I suggest that you do if you want to be kept abreast of any specials they will have.
The product:
Walgreens offer anything that you might imagine that has to do with drug stores and even a bit more. As you know, you can order your prescriptions through Walgreens.com You will need your doctor's name and telephone number and the name of the drug/strength and quantity. They will then phone your doctor to verify your prescription. You can elect not to accept generic forms of your prescriptions. One thing, if you doctor has already written you a prescription, you may not order it online. And if one has already been written, your doctor can not authorize one over the phone. But, you can go to your nearest Walgreens and have it filled, then transfer that prescription (if refillable) to the online pharmacy. You can set up automatic refills to be sent to you as well. You can order and pay online and pick it up at your local Walgreens store too.
Walgreens offers much more than just prescriptions though. You can find anything from cameras/film to food and snacks. I would not suggest you shop for a serious camera here though, as it may not be what you are looking for and you would most likely find a better deal elsewhere.
A list of categories:
I can't list everything they offer in this review but I can give you the categories and that will give you a very good idea about the product they carry.
Baby care, personal care, beauty care, health care, vitamins and nutritional care. And household, hardware, school and office, food and snacks, electronics/batteries, and cameras/film.
As you can see, Walgreens.com carry just about anything imaginable for a drug store.
Included in their website is a health library that focus' on concerns such has cancer awareness, drug interactions, info to help create a healthy balance in your family relationships, info from their fitness center, nutrition center, and working center (for those who work outside the home). They include a health resources index that I especially like. It helps answer questions that you may have about what herbs you could take for what illness, etc. They display daily health related questions and answers and much of this info is provided by the Mayo Clinic.
Other features:
Walgrees.com has a featured called *ask a pharmacist*. You can type in your questions in the form they provide and then send it to be answered by a Walgreen pharmacist. They claim response in usually one business day and mention that you may need to contact a Walgreens near you if you are needing an answer to a prescription related question sooner than that.
This feature I love. They have a maintain immunization records. You can view your own records or add your child to it and find out what immunizations are recommended for what age. It will list them all. A great tool if you are unsure when your child's next shots should be given.
Pricing:
A fine example would be Coenzyme Q-10 Walgreens.com price- $22.99. I usually give about $28.00 at other drug stores. I have ordered this along with my Excedrin and some bath items. All in all, their prices are competitive and if you order more than one item, you will save on shipping as well. My combined ordered was charged a $5.95 shipping charge. Not all that bad. Especially for me. I have to drive so far to get a good deal on anything, that the shipping is minor when comparing the money I spend in gas.
Orders are shipped the same day if ordered before 12 pm. And a delay will be imposed if order during holidays or week-ends. Orders arrive within 3-5 business days. Mine arrived exactly as predicted and I had no complaints other than the UPS driver did not ask for a signature.
Walgreens accepts Master Card, Visa, American Express, and Discover cards for payment. I don't believe they accept checks as payment online. They will not ship to a P.O. Box either and only ship to the 48 states.
My final word on Walgreens.com online store:
I love it! I highly recommend that you check them out, surf the site, and see what all they have to offer you. I believe that you will be pleasantly surprised by the experience you will no doubt have with them. Happy shopping!
