| super-b's Full Review: Samsung SyncMaster 753 DF CRT Conventional Monitor |
I prefer a flat screen monitor to the LCD screens that are becoming increasingly popular. There are several reasons, two of which are: refresh rates and resolution.
LCD's are pretty, but they sure can't get the job done like a flat screen.
The Samsung 753DF
Plug and Play monitor. You plug everything in, turn your computer on, and the monitor works. Simple enough?
Menu
The menu is easy to navigate through with four buttons (Exit, "-", "+", and Menu) located on the front of the monitor. Pressing the menu key brings up the menu and steps into the selected category, the "+" and "-" keys navigate right/left in the options, and increase/decrease when an option has been selected. Exit leaves the option selected and if at the top option, it exits the menu screen. It's straight forward and easily figured out.
Size
The size of the 753DF is what one would expect with a 17" monitor. It's a little smaller and lighter than my Samsung 700IFT, but then again, it isn't as high of a performance monitor either. The 753DF measures approximately 18" deep, 17" high, and 16.5" across. Samsung's specifications can be found at:

Specs
Maximum resolution is 1280 X 1024 at 60Hz. Of course, if you're planning on using your monitor for more than ten minutes, you don't want to be looking at a refresh rate of 60Hz. I have mine set up at 1024 X 768 at 75Hz and is much more tolerable. This is a good resolution and refresh rate for how much I paid.
At 800 X 600 the refresh rate goes upto 100Hz.
Conclusion
This is a good monitor for someone that's not too heavily into fast-paced graphics rendering (i.e. pc games). It's a great improvement over the older "bubble" style monitors.
I was considering a ViewSonic monitor instead of this one, but after putting this monitor through numberous tests, I'm pleased with the results this monitor has given. Only on a few occasions has the monitor started screwing up. And these few occasions are probably from my excessive use. My monitor is on many times more than other users, and the problem the arose was solved by simply turning it off for a few minutes.
I have yet to find a reason why the average pc user wouldn't love this monitor.
