We purchased our Gateway Performance 400 nearly two years ago, and have been plagued with problems affecting this system since the very first week. I made no initial complaints to the company because I thought that the problems might have rested within something that I myself was doing wrong. I refused to believe that all those weeks of research had brought me to such a negative position with my computer concern. Dell, Micron & Gateway were the manufacturers that everything and everyone led me to - and I chose the latter. WHAT DID I DO THAT FOR? The first day I was almost frightened out of the chair when the monitor powered on. I let it go for a while, thinking that maybe it was something that would better with usage. WRONG. After a short period of time I phoned Gateway and let the technician hear the monitor. He informed me that it was definitely not supposed to make that noise, and a new one was shipped to me. The new one, however, did the very same thing, and another call was placed. The Gateway Rep. listened to the noise, and also informed me that it was not supposed to be. She went to confer with someone and, when she returned, told me that it was normal for that to happen. It had to do with degaussing, and all monitors 17" and larger (even hers) made that noise. That was nothing but a lie. I have had to deal with a host of problems with this computer, since we first purchased it, and Gateway has apparently opted to distance themselves from the matter because they have not done anything whatsoever to help us. Our warranty was 3 years parts & labor, with the first year supposed to being in-home service. Gateway's support has left so much to be desired, and I will never EVER buy another of their systems. In fact, Gateway couldn't even GIVE me their top of the line computer with a stipulation that it could be the only computer that I utilized. And I absolutely mean this. If you're in the market for a computer and you have money to just throw away - BUY GATEWAY.
