Actually,
The dealership advised us when we looked at the GV that the shift on the fly should only be done while the vehicle is going straight. This would explain why it did not work in the original review, but did for everyone else. And yes, it is suppose to work up to 62mph, although I would consider slowing down first, 62 just seems a bit quick.

Is it a button? The 4WD shift lever would NOT engage at 35mph. Either it was broken or another step is required. If the prior, this is a very unreliable vehicle or I was driving a complete lemon.

This vehicle is in fact equipped with a 4WD shift-on-the-fly system (up to 62mph for HI). You might want to make that correction. As for the truck-like ride, that should also yield no surprises, as this SUV is built on a small truck chassis.
