It would be the ideal PC if it were not for the people

  • User Rating: Very Good
  • Ease of Use:
  • Quality of Tech Support:
Pros:I really like the overall system
Cons:Tech support could be much better
The Bottom Line: Their systems are good quality and should be given a chance. It is really a shame that the people backing them up are not up to the same quality

I bought my Gateway PC last November. I went to their website, and did my research, and after looking at Dell, Micron, HP, etc., I decided to take the plunge with the 'cow company'. It was a bit frustrating from the beginning as it took my system about 3 more weeks than I was originally told it would take for it to arrive. During my calls to Gateway Customer Service, I got a myriad of conflicting information ranging from pieces were on back order to being told that it was being built right now, all the way to them telling me that is had already been shipped. It was most confusing! I recounted all this information during one of my many calls inquiring about my system, and they finally told me that one particular piece was in fact on back order and since it had taken so long for my order to arrive, I was free to cancel it if I wished. I was incredibly tempted to take them up on it, but I decided I would give the actual system a fighting chance.
The system finally came the next week. (Customer Service was good in that they called me with the tracking numbers for the packages)
It has been almost two months since I have had the PC, and I have to say, I am pretty happy with it overall.
The only real problem that I have encountered was the configuration of Internet Explorer. I called Tech Support for help and they were quick to tell me that IE had been configured to work with the ISP that Gateway was trying to sell. It reminded me of Microsoft's trying to trick the public into thinking they have no real choices out there.
It was frustrating, but they were quick to walk me through the process.
The actual system is good and has been the single reason that I have not called Gateway to complain about their tech support.
I really hope I don't have some serious problems with the PC, cause I really don't want to call the Gateway tech support
