My first and LAST experience with Ryder

Pros:Truck was in good condition.
Cons:Lousy customer service.
The Bottom Line: I'll never use them again.

Several months before our move from Bellevue, Nebraska to Kansas City, I called around to all the local moving van companies and found that the best deal was through Ryder. I went ahead and reserved a 24 foot truck over the phone and was told I would need a credit card for the $100 deposit. I chose our MasterCard for the deposit and made the reservation for the location nearest to my house, just a few miles away.

The morning that we were to pick up the truck we received a phone call from Ryder. Our reservation had been moved to another location in north Omaha, a good 30 minute drive from our house. My husband went to pick up the truck and used our Visa card to pay for it since our MasterCard (that had the $100 deposit) was nearing its limit. When he returned home with the truck I looked over the receipt and noticed that we were charged another $100 deposit on the Visa. I called the place where he had just picked up the truck and was told that the card I used when I made the reservation was never charged. So I took his word for it and used my MasterCard to make a few purchases, making sure not to go over my limit.

Now fast forward to when I get my next MasterCard bill. Sure enough, the $100 deposit WAS indeed on my bill, right along with a $29 over the limit charge. I immediately called the Ryder 1 800 number and am told how very sorry they are and that they will credit my $100 deposit, PLUS a whole 44 dollars for the inconvenience. I will receive the credit in two weeks, they tell me.

Fast forward a month later to my next MasterCard bill. Guess what??? That's right, there's still no credit. I again call the 1 800 number and they tell me they have no idea why they didn't give me the credit, but they will go ahead and do it now, and in JUST TWO MORE WEEKS, I should have the money that was never theirs in the first place. This time it actually worked and I had the credit on my next bill.

On the bright side, the truck was fairly new and ran well. Well, that's about it for the bright side. I will be moving again in about 10 months and there is no way Ryder will get my money this time.
