BUICK REGAL GS-- EXCELENT MIX OF SPORT AND LUXURY

by toasty: Written: Jan 18 '01 - Updated Jan 19 '01

Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Roomy, Sporty, and of course, Zoomy!
Cons: No interior trunk release (only on Keyless entry remote)
The Bottom Line: Excelent alternative to import cars offering similar space, but lacking american quality and performance

My wife and I recently purchased a 99 Buick Regal GS, and we love it! The outside of the car is nice and sporty with curves in all the right places, but is also refined and looks very nice, having excelent craftmanship.

The Interior--
Bucket seats (standard in Regal) The GS trim level comes standard with heated leather front buckets, with leather seating in the rear. The seats in front and rear are very comfortable, and the driver's 6 way power seat insures that the driver can sit just about however they need to in order to be comfy. The dash is smartly laid out, although the buttons for the trip computer are a bit hard to see behind the steering wheel. The stereo is easy to operate with large buttons and large display. (and on this particular machine, has the MONSOON stereo system which includes the amplified speaker system, so this factory system really sounds great!) The heating/ac controls are well laid out, with large knobs and buttons, which is a big plus.
There is ample room in the rear seating area, which includes a fold down arm rest with 2 cup holders. also, there is a center pass thru to the trunk behind the armrest. The only negative thing about the interior at this point is the lack of full fold down rear seat and lack of interior mounted trunk release button.

Engine/drivetrain-
The 3800 supercharged series II engine is rock solid!
The car currently has 33k miles on it, and i fully expect that it will last to atleast 300,000 miles, as i have been around the 3800 engine for years and have seen cars with that many miles on these engines, still running great!
The independant front and rear suspension provide a very good ride, as well as handling, in which the 16" tires also contribute.

This car is an excelent example of the fine craftmanship that Buick is known for.
