The Bottom Line: I only use my webcam for taking pictures and I still believe 3 years later that it was worth the money.

I read a review about this camera and I have to disagree with them. I bought this cam back when everyone was starting to use the "webcam" thing at home. This and one other pro model were the only reasonably priced cameras at the store at the time of purchase. I chose the cheaper one, and I am glad i did.
When you open up the box you will see the CDrom which has the software for the camera on it, usb cable, directions, and a small screw looking plastic thingy. When fiddling with it(or reading directions.. same difference) you will notice the screw is used as a mini-tripod type of device. you screw your cam onto the stand and you can then place this cam anywhere..(anywhere, that is, within a few feet of your usb port). I chose to put mine on the empty original box packaging and propped it next to my monitor.. then it would have leverage and would be at an angle where i was at least facing the cam a little bit. I played with it and instantly was disappointed. The picture was all grainy!! Oh Dear!
I decided to call it a night... when I tried again in the morning, it looked fabulous!! The colors were colors and I was extremly pleased.. then nightfall came... you can imagine what happened then. Grainy again. I went and bought a flourescent desk lamp and went i used the cam i put it right behind the cam.. then the light would be on my face and everything worked out. I have had no desire to buy a better quality cam since I figured out that this cam needs light to work right!
Next, I needed to find a way to put my webcam on the net. Inside the software is an option to take you to "spotlife". This is a free online webcam community. I set it all up and it snapped pics of me every twenty seconds. It worked great and people started watching me. I started feeling creeped out by all the strangers sending me mnessages so I discontinued that part of the cam.
I only use my webcam for taking pictures and I still believe 3 years later that it was worth the money. This product is not going to let you take high quality jpgs. It never promised to. This is going to allow you to take pictures of yourself, others in the room with you, and those items you need to sell on ebay.If these are the options you need, don't hesitate to get it.
