..just as a side recommendation, I would suggest reconsidering Voicestream.. I have had a chance to work with them, and I found their service to be, to say the least, pitiful...

What the rep told you about them being 'digital only' really does not explore their biggest problem (voicestreams).. you see, with most carriers, if you leave their coverage, they have agreements with other carriers to keep you connected, voicestream uses a unique digital frequency that is not compatiable with other carriers and they lack the agreements, so when you leave their coverage, you are literally with out service...
I hate to say it, but alltel was rated as the best service in your area by jd power.. you may want to also consider verizon as they have the largest network (they and alltel are partners so I am not sure what kind of difference you will see..)
Also, I am sad to report, that the customer service issues (long hold, etc..) you experienced, are common among all carriers.. hopefully they all will have a wake up call and realize where their biggest investments need to be placed..
