Before choosing the Canon S520 I did my homework and researched all major models within my price range. Printing speed and quality was my main concerns as well as ink prices. I was amazed at how inexpensive the ink tanks are for this model(tanks are $11.00 a piece at Office Depot). I'm use to paying $34 for my old HP 722 printer.The ink prices alone convinced me to give the S520 a chance and hope for the best.
Installation Is A Nightmare
I have Win XP and ran into problems right away. The instructions and software caused my XP to have fits. My add new hardware was going crazy and locking up the computer. The driver software was doing an infinite loop looking for ports. I called tech support which is long distance, and they couldn't help me at all. They didn't know what was wrong and really could care less. I'm a computer programmer so I had to figured out what was causing the problem. Inexperienced users watch out.
Once I got this installed it worked great. Prints a 4x6 photo in high resolution in 1 minute and looks great. Text printing looks great and is very very fast.
Software that comes with the printer is really cool. Photo Stich lets you make 3d images in a snap. The borderless printing also is cool.
This printer is by far the best in it's class. Even after my terrible installation experience(4 hours), I still would purchase this printer again. It's features, software, and ink prices make this one hard to beat.
