new consolidated- save 40%Jan 18 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line If you're not set on a specific arrival and departure time and want to save money, take a look at this. Hi! I recently was on an airplane, reading the onboard magazine when I noticed a story about a new consolidated called hotwire. Always looking for a deal, I checked it out online as soon as I hit the ground. As promised, they are able to save consumers a considerable amount. Here's how it works: Go to the website at www.hotwire.com You have to sign up for an account, but it's free. They say they're comparable to priceline, but the consumer knows the price before charging the credit card. Anyway, they ask for a departure date/return date, departure /return city, number of connections willing to make, jet or prop and if redeye flights are acceptable. They say it works because its operated by a few of the big name airlines such as Continental and United. Anyway, the price is approximately 30 to 40 percent less than the same prices on travelocity and other similar sites, which seems like a bargain to me. The con, of course, is that consumer doesn't know which airline or times until after the ticket is purchased. However, unlike priceline where the consumer guestimates what to pay, one can research prices here before buying. |
