Pros: Easy to clean, nice features, good looking
Cons: controls not always intuitive
The Bottom Line: A well-performing, attractive range with convection oven that is very easy to clean. Better features than ordinary ranges, and significantly less expensive than higher-end (e.g. Dacor) units.

| norberr's Full Review: Jenn-Air JGS8850 Gas Kitchen Range |
We have had the range installed for a couple of months. We considered lower-end models by Amana and others, but didn't like the rangetop features (see below) and ease of cleaning. We looked at higher-end ranges such as Dacor and Viking, including dual-fuels, but decided we just didn't need the dual-fuel capability, and that the Jenn-Air had what we needed for hundreds of dollars less.
The cooktop is great. There is a low-output simmer burner plus higher-BTU burner for faster cooking. The cast iron grates cover the entire surface, making it easy to move pots around (and hard to tip them over). The grates remove completely for access to the surface to clean; you could put them in the dishwasher, although I wouldn't do that with cast iron.
Probably the best feature is the ease of cleaning. Wiping the top and front is simple. The grates and the burner tops easily come off, and the sealed burners make it impossible for spills to get inside the unit. The black gloss finish does show dirt easily, but we knew that when we bought it. The black range looks great slid in to the countertop for a built-in look.
Baking performance is fine, although we don't do a lot. I'm not sure why we got the convection feature, which we haven't used yet, but maybe we will. What little we have done (a few roasts and pies) have turned out well, and the temperature appears to be well-regulated. There is a feature that lets you adjust the displayed temp by a few degrees if the thermostat gets out of whack.
Using the control panel can be a little complex, so you may want to keep the manual handy for a while. Setting some functions seems unintuitive, but once I got used to it, it's not a big deal. It has too many feature (most unused as of yet) to list here--see the Jenn-Air web site or product literature. Note that the range will not operate during a power failure, if that is important to you. Self installation was easy.
I marked the range durability as Good, although it has only been in use for a couple of months. We had a problem with a Jenn-Air refrigerator purchased at the same time, but so far so good on the range. If something happens, I'll update the review.
