| SHOSHOSHO's Full Review: Alienware Area51Pentium 3 Desktop Computers |
I have had my Alienware Area 51, 2.2gig, P4, for about two months. I wanted to wait to write a review until I had enough time to use it a bit. I have to say that during this time the computer has performed flawlessly. I got the computer I was promised as well as above average performance. The configuration and ordering process was easy, and if you need help in configuring the product the sales staff is more than helpful. I spoke to a sales rep a couple of times before actually purchasing the product and received detailed and insightful help. My rep really knew what he was talking about! He suggested a number of things that I did not think about. Unlike retailers or other mail order PC manufacturers these guys really know their stuff!! It took about 4 weeks to receive my computer, but given the fact that I had a brand new GeForce Ti4600 video card installed the wait was understandable. When I purchased the computer the video card was hard to come by. And let me say something about price. You may notice that one of the things commonly mentioned about this computer is the high price. Price is relative. This computer is worth every penny and is not pricey given the high quality components. I priced a Dell system choosing the highest quality components that Dell had to offer. The price quoted for the Dell was only $100 less than the $3,200 I paid for my system. BUT, and I mean BUT, Dell simply did not offer some of the higher quality components that Alienware offered, Dell simply did not have them. Things like 5 cooling fans, a 350 watt power supply, Asus mother board and a Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 sound system amongst other things. And one more thing, this computer has the best sound system that I have ever heard. I previously owned a Dell with an Altec Lansing Dolby Digital system and thought that it sounded great. Alienware went with an analog 5.1 system that actually sounds better! The bottom line is this computer will not disapoint. Each system is shipped after going through a 5 day evaluation where they check the performance of every aspct of your system. If it does not perform to their liking, they tear it appart and start over. You actually receive copy of the bench mark results for your computer! And by the way, the tech support was awesome. I needed to transfer music files from my old Dell to Alienware. My sales rep actually walked me through the process and had my transferring files via a network connection between both computers within 5 minutes. What other company has sales reps that can double as tech reps. If you are wondering about this great sales rep, his name is Elkie, just ask for him by name.
