Introduction
My decision to shop at Fossil.com was influenced mostly by my experience with my Fossil watch. I purchased it a few months ago and love it. I think it is good looking, well made, and an excellent value for the money. So when the zipper of my old wallet broke last week, I decided to check out Fossil, knowing that they made an array of products other than watches.
The Website
Upon arriving at Fossil.com, you are greeted by a well designed and easy to navigate web page. All the pages loaded fairly quickly and had good product information and pictures. The site has a bar at the top with links to men, women, gifts, collectibles, search by style, and checkout. Within minutes I had found my way to Fossil's extensive selection of wallets. 18 bifolds, 14 trifolds, 4 "boxed wallets", 31 "front pocket" wallets, 16 "fuel" wallets, and 10 checkbooks gave me a lot to peruse through. And none of them cost more than $35! I finally selected a $25 "Brody Sliding 2 in 1" bifold and proceeded to the checkout.
Shipping Options
When I placed my order last Monday, May 27 the shipping options were: free second day air (UPS), free ground shipping (UPS), free 1st class mail (USPS), or you could pay several dollars for overnight shipping (UPS). As I was writing this review, I went to Fossil.com to check up on the exact price of overnight only to find that overnight is now free as well. Wow. I don't think that any of Fossil's competitors can beat that. I was extremely impressed with Fossil.com's offer of free 2nd day air; usually I have to pay for ground shipping. I've never even heard of free overnight shipping before. Maybe it's a Father's Day promotion. But whatever the reason, the shipping options are fabulous.
Checkout and Confirmation
Checkout was a breeze; I entered all of my credit card and shipping information, and printed out the order confirmation page. Fossil also sent me an e-mail right away to confirm the order, and another e-mail the next day, telling me that my order had been shipped. The second e-mail also included a UPS order tracking number. I thought that the e-mails were well done. They were straight to the point, no excessive information or ads trying to sell me even more stuff. I think two e-mails is just about right for automated confirmation. I have received three of more e-mails from other stores before (getting e-mails telling me that my order has been received, my order is being processed, my order has been approved, and my order has shipped is overkill).
The Product
My wallet arrived on the 31st, three days after it had shipped, so I guess it was a day late. I wasn't upset at all, the shipping was free after all! The wallet came nicely packaged in a collectible gift tin. Fossil sells all of its products in these cool tins with old fashioned logos and pictures. The wallet came with a key ring in matching leather that was stamped with the same Fossil logo as the wallet. It was pictured on Fossil's site, so it wasn't a surprise, but I though it was interesting to include a key ring with a wallet. The wallet itself appears to be well made and looks just like it did on the site. It has a pretty unique design: it looks like a standard leather wallet, except then there's a compartment on the outside that holds a leather insert. You put your ID in the clear compartment in the insert, and then you can slide the insert in and out of the side of the wallet without even opening it. Overall, the product was very impressive.
A Free Gift! For Me?
Surprise, surprise! Upon opening my package I found that there was a little something extra included. At the bottom of the box sat a little blue cardboard box that said "Fossil Luggage Tag." And it contained just that. The tag was pretty nice; it was made of stainless steel (or aluminum, perhaps) and was stamped "Fossil" on the side. It was designed so that only one line of text showed through the tag when closed (your last name) and that to get at the other information the tag would have to be removed from the luggage and swiveled open. I will definitely use the tag and always appreciate freebies.
Final Thoughts
Well, my shopping experience with Fossil.com was pretty ideal. My only possible complaint is that my order arrived one day late, but as I mentioned earlier, I don't really care because the shipping was free to begin with. And now that they are offering free overnight shipping there's no excuse not to buy from Fossil. I got a great product (and a free gift!) at a very reasonable price. I will almost undoubtedly shop with Fossil.com again. If you are looking for a new wallet, watch, pair of sunglasses, or want some new clothes, I'd highly recommend shopping with Fossil.com.
