LOL!
I'm out of my league here.
BTW, I don't usually keep coming back to comment sections (this is such a drama, I can't help myself)...so if you need me, you might want to email me at pluckyduck@comcast.net. Not that I can help. ::g::
Thanks,
Andrea

Ok, this is even stranger than I thought... (Reply to this comment)

When I use Explorer: everything looks fine when viewed from Explorer, but from other computers (or Netscape) it's illegible.
When I use Netscape: everything looks fine when viewed from Netscape, but when viewed from Explorer it is illegible. Do the pasted-in quotes from my last comment look OK to you?
Maybe the solution is simply using Netscape.
But here's another paradox: When I use Explorer on other computers everything is fine! My computer is messed up!!!
Thanks for all your help,

I went to the control panels, then to keyboard. It is set for English (U.S.) and at the top under "script" Roman is selected (it's the only option). I don't think that it's the keyboard. If it was the keyboard, wouldn't I still be able to see the character? Let me check to see if it shows up in Netscape (I'm using Explorer)... Ah! The character shows up in Netscape! Let me repeat my test of pasting the apostrophe and quotes from Netscape...

Okay, the "friends" have weighed in. Here's a
thought:
"My money isn't on a Mac problem. I bet that somehow the keyboard has been set for a French (or other gallic-esque) language. If so and the user is writing on a US/English keyboard that will screw up some of the characters.
Can you help him or her get to wherever the keyboard preferences are on a Mac? On Windows there is a keyboard folder in the control panel, and a tab for language setting. Its the easiest solution but no one had mentioned it yet so... "
BTW, if you want to join the conversation, I'm trying to get some help at EAforums.com.

That's the link for the thread, or you can just go to
http://www.eaforums.com and look for the technology section.

Ooops! I was in the process of updating as you left this comment. One interesting thing: I'm on a mac (another one) and I was able to see and correct the weird character. Even more puzzling is that the mac is almost identical to mine, running the same OS and using the same browser. This is strange.
Thanks, bdb55

Default in French? Very impressive!
Alas, the paste of both Word and Works produces the weird character.
Extremely puzzling.
Don't fix anything for a bit on the PC. Let me see if I can get the greatest minds of our century (otherwise known as the clowns I hang out with) to problem solve.

The weird character is still there?!? I wrote the review in arial font as doglover suggested in the comments of my Headroom review. Alas, again I must make my way to a PC for an update. I would greatly appreciate it if you could figure out a way to prevent this, seeing as after next week I won't be able to get to a PC (summer vacation!)
Thanks, bdb55
P.S. Maybe it is because I'm writing my reviews in Appleworks. When I typed directly on the review page (lets see, that must have been more than a year ago) I do not remember having this problem. I will try Microsoft word next time (which is somewhat of a pain because it is defaulted in French right now). Oh, wait, let me test it here. Please tell me it this works.

Yet another.... (Reply to this comment)

.... excellent review. I'm glad you're an online shopper, please keep it up!
I've never shopped on Fossil.com but I've checked the site out and it looked interesting. Good to know they take such good care of you.
(As far as the "weird character" problem that persists on the new review; I've no idea. I use a Mac without a problem. I'll see if any tech heads I know can figure what is up with that. )
Thanks for writing!!
