| khlorineking's Full Review: Philips FW C3 Stereo Mini System |
I bought this about a year and a half ago, and it has held up amazingly well. Philips has really done it again. I also got a Sharp surround sound system for my tv, and used Star Wars Episode I as my sound tester. Well recently I went to a bose store, and saw how the floor shook when they're lightsabers clashed, so I kinda wanted to reproduce that, or at least semi-close to it.
I used the sharp receiver at home, and after I switched to the second audio channel on the star wars DVD, I could feel the floor kinda rumble, but it was very weak. so I'm like "man I really do have to spend the mega bucks to get the best sound." However, the Philips was still in my room at the moment. I also have a DVD player in my computer and I was bored one day so I popped star wars in my computer and put on my headphones. I was amazed when I watched the same scene and the headphones I was wearing actually vibrated from the shocks of the lightsabers. I got to thinking that maybe it was the sharp receiver that was the problem, not my speakers. So I then took out the Sharp and put in the Philips. I turned star wars on, went to the same scene and my jaw dropped. The floor was shaking just about as much as at the bose center. I was literally stunned. I was getting almost the same sound from these 5.25" woofers that bose was, with it's new $1000 a speaker 8-inch woofers with the huge cabinets. I don't really know how Philips does it, but they always managed to get deep rich sound in all of their products, and this is a prime example of it. This is easily one of the best stereo's you can get. Not to mention for it's money. I've cranked this thing many times, and never once have the speakers shown any sign of distortion! What a great system!! It's also got tons of great features. 6-way digital sound control that let's you choose from "Optimal", "classical", "jazz", "dance", "vocal", and "rock". Plus, there are 5 different stages you can choose from in each setting. Also, there is 3- way bass boost, and over all it is a very smart system. With my Sharp, you have to turn the whole thing on and then open the CD drawer, which takes forever. This you can just walk up and push open, and the drawer is open in about 1 second. Very good system.
