I've owned my Epson 820 for approx one month. I've owned Hp and Lexmark printers previously and needed a printer with cheaper ink and the ability to print decent photos. I had heard and read so many positive reviews about Epson printers I decided to give one a try. The first few weeks of owning the printer I was "not" impressed. The printed photos didn't look any better than photos printed from other printers. One day, by chance, I printed an 8 X 10 photo using the Epson "PhotoQuicker" software. Boy, was I impressed. The photo was beautiful!
The print was so good I thought it was a fluke. I tried it again...same results. Another beautiful photo. It took me a month but I finally realized that the Epson software makes all the difference. The prints look like they came from a photographer. I've never had digital prints look so good. And I used a package of cheap Kodak inkjet photo paper that I purchased from Walmart for $3.50 for fifteen 8 X 10 sheets. To get best results, I clean up/modify my photos using other photo software, but I print the photo using Epson's software. You can't go wrong.
However, if I had to list the negatives about the printer, I must start by saying that it uses a lot of ink. And when the printer is turned on and initializes, it goes through so many girations, you'll think it's seriously broken. My son has an Epson printer and it does the same thing. They're just noisy. Further, I don't think the printer is as fast as advertised but the photos look so good, I don't mind waiting an extra minute or two.
I highly recommend this printer. I only paid $89.00 and have already gotten my moneys worth. I don't think a better printer is made for "double" the price!
