Matt's Epinion of the Logitech Webcam
Written: Jun 05 '02 (Updated Jun 05 '02)
Pros:It's cheap.
Cons:It has good quality, but you must have sufficient lighting for good picture.
The Bottom Line: It's cheap, it's reliable, and it's easy to use. Not much to not like about this camera besides the slightly low quality.
PRICE:About $45.00
VIDEO QUALITY:
Fairly decent, however it's not excellent quality. What do you expect for $45? It has a respectable resolution with many different adjusting selectors in the "Advanced Options" section which include the following options:
Brightness
Contrast
Hue
Saturation
Sharpness
Gamma
White Balance
Backlight Compensator
VIDEO/AUDIO RECORDING CAPABILITY
This little bugger will allow you to take audio and video pictures and videos which will include sound. I am a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard Cadet Program, and I brought this little camera to one of my cadet meetings. I have a laptop, and I brought it along with me to cadets and I took videos and pictures with it which you can view on www.spoonercadets.cjb.net. Virtually ALL of the pictures that are on that site have been taken with this little video camera. Take a look for yourself and see it the quality is worth the price tag.
EXTRA FEATURES
This camera comes with some additional features such as the ability to broadcast live video, post your webcam for others to view (which is really only useful if you have a cable, dsl, t1, ot t3 connection). In addition to these, there is also a tab that lets you create video emails that compress the video file down into a smaller file so if you have a slower connection, you can send video emails to your friends and relatives that are far away.
ANNOYING QUIRKS
Sometimes this camera will fall off wherever I put it if I don't set it just right because the cord will get all gnarled up/twirled up...additionally, if I am trying to take videos with the quality turned up, the image that I am taking will "Skip"....that is, the person or thing that is moving will stop for about a half of a second and then move again real fast...it's kind of funny the way it sounds, but it gets annoying sometimes.
FINAL VIEW
This is a good camera for the everyday computer user that wants to create videos to send to his friends or to put on a website. You really dont need a higher quality camera for normal stuff like this.
