B&H -- Reliable both ONLINE and OFF
by radioguy | Jun 07 '02

B&H Photo Video, as the name implies, sells photographic and video equipment. They have a single, very large (block-long) retail location in Manhattan. At this location, between 33rd and 34th Streets, they have a mail-order and Web operation...

Exactly my experience of B&H (Reply to this comment)

I live in Manhattan, and all of the things I think are most important about working with B&H are covered here. I once returned a tripod and mentioned a problem that might arise with the credit: I cancelled the card I had used to purchase with and been issued a new one. Same account, different card number. Instead of not caring if I ever got my money back, which is what most retailers would do, the guy outlined a plan to follow in case the credit didn't show up on a specific day. This took into account the fact that Friday transactions don't get posted to their bank till Monday (because of the Friday work restrictions, probably.) There was no problem, but the ease of the whole return/credit transaction was refreshing.

If another vendor advertises a better price on an item, I'd usually rather spend the few extra dollars to deal with people I can trust than a vendor I'm not sure about. I figure they deserve the money for being a good company, and it's an insurance policy against a potentially expensive nightmare.

I have dealt with B&H for many years and your review fairly and objectively covers both their strengths and their faults.

I have always wanted to get inside the actual store (although I suspect that a close up experience with their used camera/lens dept would be disastrous to my budget) thanks for the virtual tour.

I love this review. Thanks so much for writing it. I love the inside look into the operations, and any review that has "Rube Goldberg" worked into it is extra special.

Thanks!
