Pros: Great views, clean rooms
Cons: Nothing really wrong, but nothing exceptional.
The Bottom Line: Good, solid if somewhat characterless base to see Toledo from. Excellent views from the cathedral side of the higher floors (3 and 4).

| richfife's Full Review: Carlos V |
The Carlos V is a well situated hotel near the Alcazar in Toledo that pretty much gets everything right, but doesn't try to excel at anything. The rooms are well appointed and clean, but kind of small. The bathrooms are functional and include a thorough set of complementary toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shower cap, shoe polishing sponge, etc.) The location is not quite central, but old Toledo is small enough that you can get anywhere from anywhere on foot anyway.
Where the Carlos V stands out is in the view, but only if you're on the 3rd or 4th floor on the cathedral side of the hotel. When we got in, we looked out the window across the rooftops of Toledo and it was a stunning, perfect sight. Later on, when the sun set, well, my wife said "Now the city's just showing off". Astonishing, postcard perfect view of the old towers and cathedral with the sun a blast of orange in the background. Wow...
The minus on this side of the hotel was a noisy bar that partied on until about 2:30 in the morning.
The restaurant is actually pretty good. It's done up in an Islamic style in the basement. It can't, however, quite avoid looking like it's a basement, so you don't eat there for the ambience.
The breakfast (not included, 7 Euros if memory serves) was pretty good and included a fare selection of meats, eggs and yogurts to push it past the usual anemic continental breakfasts these places dish out.
