This is my first epinion. I feel compelled to write because my experience with Verizon has been excellent, and I think it's important to give credit where it's due. Good service has become so rare...
I have been a Verizon customer for a year. Verizon is my second wireless service provider; my first experience with a different provider was a disaster.
I signed up with Verizon back when it was just Airtouch, and chose Airtouch because it had a solid reputation in my area. I was willing to pay a bit more for better service.
In the past twelve months, I have had no billing disputes (amazing for any business relationship), no coverage problems (and I've traveled all over the country; the only areas I've failed to receive a signal are not Verizon's fault), and I never EVER wait on hold when I have to call customer service. My questions are answered politely and efficiently. I can change my plan every month based on usage.
My calls are dropped relatively infrequently. (Most of my friends have SprintPCS, and their calls are dropped constantly.) I am credited time when calls are dropped. Verizon never seems to be overloaded. (That is, they have enough bandwidth available for their customer base...I am never unable to make or receive a call.)
I have lost or destroyed 2 phones this year and Verizon replaced the first one free of charge and recommended an insurance policy. When I had to use the insurance, it was completely hassle-free.
I am a very frequent cell phone user...I usually use around 1000 minutes/month, and have actually exceeded the 1500 minute plan once or twice. It's possible that I get special treatment for being such a "good" customer, but I have a friend who uses about 300 minutes/month and is equally happy with Verizon. Also, I have a single-rate, national calling plan, so there is nothing unexpected about my billing. I have to admit that I looked into a local/regional plan for my teenage brother, and those plans are very confusing and, I think, inconvenient.
Verizon provides me above all with security. Other providers have failure rates as high as 66% (possibly higher) for call completion but I feel confident that if an emergency occurs, my Verizon phone will function. And that's the whole point, right?
