| Full Review |
I will start this review by saying that I do usually prefer Google or AllTheWeb to Yahoo! Search but they have been good to me as well so I will be giving them a pretty good review. Yahoo! Search does have some good features that Google and AllTheWeb do not have which are great - specifically I love their category matches (look below for more about why I love this feature).
Interface
Well let's start at the beginning here then. First when you go to http://www.yahoo.com you will see a very clean and easy to use interface. This looks very appealing and very simple to use. Well it is very simple to use and brings back very good results.
You can either use a simple search or the advanced search, which will bring back more accurate results if you have more information that you can provide (or want to limit your search by Language or date of the site).
Ease of Use
So simple, in fact this is so easy to use that it's very funny that there are a lot of people out there that do have problems using this. Just type in what you are looking for into the box and hit search. Of course the more exact your item the better results you will get, the more generic of a term you use then the less likely your results will be exactly what you are looking for.
This is true of any searches that you can find. So the best thing that you can do with Yahoo or any search is that use terms that are more specific to what you are searching for.
Results
The results are usually accurate for me. The complaint that I do have is that some of them are more out of date than with searches such as Google. The reason for this is that sites are not sought out by Yahoo but rather are submitted by the site owners or users. So this does not increase accuracy of the results.
Category Matches
This is a feature that I like and use the most. Say you are looking for sites that are similar to Epinions (I don't say anything else like what your looking for but it's an example). Anyway, type in epinions and look at the category that they list it as and click on the last link before the name. This will bring you back other sites that are similar to Epinions. This works with anything and not just epinions as long as there are sites that are classified the same in their directories.
Web Page Matches
These are the common results that are brought back and what most people will deal with the majority of the time. This will bring back a list of sites that match what you are searching for. Very useful!
Reliability
Like I put above Yahoo! themselves do not go out and actively search for sites. They use those that have been submitted by site owners or users so at times the results are not as up-to-date as searches that actively look for new sites to add such as Google or AllTheWeb. So if you are looking for something very recent I would recommend those over Yahoo!
Speed of Results
Okay, this is a highly debatable part of this review because this is also based on the speed of your own computer and of your own connection. For me these results are about 5 seconds and they are very good compared to other searches (yes, google is faster and alltheweb is a little slower than this).
Conclusion
Although Yahoo! Search is not the best at everything they do have their good features that you might be interested in using during some searches. I know at times these have helped me and they might be of interest to other people as well as to me.
