Nozzles always clogging, expensive ink and noisy. (Reply to this comment)

I've had this printer about a year. I mainly got it because I have a Mac computer and Epson seems more compatible with Macintosh products. I don't have any problem with the software. I do have some major problems with the printer. It continually is clogging on me. It seems like each time I want to print out some photos, I have to run a nozzle cleaning and that eats up ink. The ink cartridges have smart chips, so it makes it practically impossible to replace the ink yourself. (I don't know how that's possible when there are six colors anyway) I have tried compatible cartridges in the six color cartridge. I don't think the non Epson cartridges are the problem either, because I've only used Epson's black cartridge and that clogs too. When it does print, it looks great. But what good is that if it's clogging all the time. And it's annoyingly noisy, particularly on startup. It practically shakes itself off my desk. I guess you get what you pay for. I would be quite hesistant to buy another Epson. I think I'd turn to the Canon i860. I hear they're quite good and the ink is much cheaper.

epson 820 printer (Reply to this comment)

finally getting tired of seeing "out of ink" again,i punched in "epson 820 ink usage "on
google-to see if i'm the only one who thinks this thing eats way to much ink for how
few pictures or documents i print out. and this is where it led me.roughly i believe
i bought this in jan.,2002.listed @$149.00,since i was buying an Imac with it, i
believe i paid $100.00.and yes i have to say i've printed out lots of digital photo
pictures-off internet and my own camera(s).but it uses ink-color and black.so i switched to generic.(about clogging in a moment)and yes it can print some nice photos. my wife brought home a nikon coolpix 5000(5meg) from work and i took a few pictures of my bad mustang, with close ups of the side of the tire, and with the resolution of the camera and printer i could see any and all tiny letters on the
tire-with the little nubs and their shadows-camera and printer did a good job.
BUT! it uses the hell out of ink and like the other review it clogs up all the time even with epson ink-i'd have to run"clean ink heads" half the time.i could get 3-5 8x11
full color photo prints-definitely 3,maybe 4,and ink would be cutting out on 5.
again these would be full page photos-BUT COME ON!!! thats why i came here
i'm looking for something else. oh ya i had a couple other printers that did good
don't know the models off hand.but this is expensive.and it did clog up all the time.
thats it .you want this? email me mitchgig@earthlink.net today is 2-18-03-quickly
you can have it-pay shipping.

USB Freezeups (Reply to this comment)
by mikemsd
It should be noted that most USB Freezeups are caused by a conflict within the operating system and not by the device. USB is still a relatively new technology and all the kinks haven't quite been worked out by the OS manufacturers.
