A gift of chocolates, who cannot resist? Except those allergic to cocoa, or those who think, “Cheap bastard, where’s the diamond ring?” I would just go ahead and order. Godiva is a brand recognized worldwide, thanks to smart marketing, for its signature gold ballotine packed with whimsically designed high-quality chocolates. A gift of Godiva is always a gift of thanks, and now that Godiva is available online, one can thank anybody with a touch of a button.
Shopping on Godiva.com is effortless, navigation easy. The important shipping info page listing their shipping policies is just one click away. A list of their store locations are also available on their website. The website also contains a lot of other stuff, like company history, and recipes.
Because Godiva is not just selling chocolates, but emotions and fantasy, it is only natural for them to describe their products in flowery language. Take, this sample description, “Bound with a sparkling turquoise net ribbon, our Gold Ballotins come alive with colors of the sea. They are adorned with a keepsake starfish magnet that will be enjoyed long after the chocolates are savored. Beneath the lid is a bounty of milk, dark and ivory delights, including our Milk Chocolate Starfish and Romaine. Kosher OU-D.” Quite descriptive, the only thing missing is a disclaimer like those found on soup cans, e.g., “Fantasy Suggestion”.
Shipping costs is tiered depending on purchase price, with a maximum charge of 8% on all orders over $500.00 (10-12% if shipping other than standard 3-5 day is used.) Someone once sent a box of Godiva chocolates to me, and I would just say the packaging was OK, no damage to the merchandise.
Personally, I find Godiva chocolates a little too sweet, with too much cocoa butter in them for my tastes, but as far as gift giving goes, it is the thought that counts the most. In case you don’t know what to give, Godiva lets you wimp out by mailing gift certificates instead.
Alternatives: I wholeheartedly recommend zChocolat.com if you want to send that special person a gift of chocolates (and I’m saying this as a customer). zChocolate is based in France; all their chocolates are handmade by award-winning chocolatiers using the most traditional of methods, and the highest quality ingredients. They ship to the USA, and pack everything extremely well. Best of all, the prices (factoring chocolate quality, and shipping) are far better than Godiva, and there is a full 100% money back guarantee on both the purchase price, and shipping cost. zChocolat has been voted best lesser known gift site by the Wall Street Journal, Oct 2001.
