| timtimes's Full Review: DocuPrint M750 Printer |
I researched the purchase of this printer for weeks, relying heavily on the member opinions here at Epinions. I paid less than a hundred dollars for this printer at Office Depot. Setup was uneventful. I'm using Windows98 and running the parallel port setup (through my Zip drive - No Problem). After unpacking the printer, attaching the printer cable (not provided) and installing the software, I printed a couple small color shots on regular inkjet paper. They were as good as I'm used to seeing on the HP stuff I've seen. I then switched out paper and using Kodak glossy stuff (not cheap), printed a sample photo taken from the Kodak website with one of their mega-pixel cameras (DC290). All I can say is WOW. Or maybe unbelievable! The output looks like it came straight from the photo lab!
I've only had the printer for two days, so I can't address the concerns of the fellow who had the print head failures after five weeks. I am excited by the fact the printer uses SEPARATE ink cartridges for the three color cartridges as well as a larger separate black cartridge. For the tech minded, the color cartridges appear to be 10ml each and were priced two for $24 at Office Depot. The other printers I looked at that offered the separate ink cartridges were much more expensive than the Xerox offering. The printer is officially discontinued if my understanding is correct. Xerox will no longer be making printers for the consumer market. This probably explains why the price of this printer has fallen steadily for the last several months. I am glad to be aware of the Print Head issue and will keep an eye on the price and availability of this necessary consumable. Unless the price of the replacements is high or the failure rate exceedingly often, I don't see how you can lose on a price per performance basis with this unit.
